Viper seethed.

“Let’s go,” Lobo called out.

Maria shoved Rick away. “I said later. Now, go.” She turned and walked away.

Viper wanted to go after Rick, but right now he had bigger fish to fry. Instead he called his brother back and said succinctly in a deadly tone, “Call locals. Rick just left the clubhouse. Tell them to find him and put him in a fucking cage.”

He put on his mask of indifference and walked out of the clubhouse for what he hoped was the last time. He was so done with this job.

Maria, of course, wanted him in the car with her and Cueball. Lobo and the other three rode in another car in the lead. A block from the hospital entrance, they were cut off by black SUVs front and back, two more in the lane beside them. Agents jumped out, guns drawn, Nick ordering them, “Out of the vehicles. Hands up.”

Lobo and his crew complied immediately, though cautiously.

Maria pulled a gun out from under her seat.

Viper knocked it out of her hand to the floor.

“What the fuck?” She glared at him.

Luckily, the feds knew he was in the car and waited. “Those are fucking trained agents. What do you think you’re going to do? Start a shoot-out with six heavily armed men?”

Cueball bounced in the back seat, glancing out every window. “Man, we’re fucked.”

“Get out. Keep your mouth shut,” Maria ordered both of them. “They don’t know shit.” She put her hand on the door handle and got out slowly, raising her hands.

He and Cueball exited the other side.

Viper immediately went down on the ground, hands out in front of him on the pavement. As expected, Cueball followed his lead.

Nick cuffed Viper.

Another agent took Cueball into custody.

When Nick sat him up on his knees, Viper spotted Scratch in the back of one of the SUVs. Poor bastard just had a kid, and now he was headed to jail with his wife left to raise their child on her own.

Viper felt bad for the little guy who, because his father had made bad choices, would never really know him.

He wanted to be everything to the ones he loved.

Maybe now he’d get the chance.

Nick bent down close to his ear. “Is this everyone?”

“We’ll question the guys with Lobo, then let them go if they have no outstanding warrants. Any word on Rick?”

“He disappeared. Cops couldn’t find him.”

“Fuck.” How did that weasel keep getting away? He focused on what he could do right now. “Left back pocket.”

Nick took the notebook out and thumbed through it.

“You fucking asshole,” Maria shouted.

He turned and found her pinned, belly to the car hood, a fellow FBI agent searching her.

She glared hard at Viper, then at the book in his brother’s hand. “You fucked with the wrong woman. Payback’s a bitch.”

Viper took the threat seriously and would take steps to neutralize her. But first, his brother hauled him to the SUV with Lobo in it and left the two of them together while they cleared the scene.
