He grinned. “Good guess, but I’m FBI.”

“Wow.” She looked him up and down. “Nice cover. You look like a thug.”

“Thanks?” He wasn’t sure if that was a compliment or not.

She brushed her fingertips along his jaw. “You’re sexy as hell, and I want you desperately.”

He leaned in and kissed her, wanting her just as much.

She leaned back and broke the kiss. “I have a million questions. How long have you been undercover?”

“This time, less than a year. Before this, I was undercover in a militia group. Took them down along with the leader of a commune of farmers after he turned against the community because he wanted power and money.”

“Damn. Okay. So you do all the really dangerous stuff.”

He shrugged that off, even though it was true. “It’s the job.”

“So what happened with the Wild Wolves MC?”

“I’ll answer all your questions, I swear, but first, I need some food.”

She caught herself. “I’m sorry. The rest can wait. You look exhausted.”

“This case... being away from you... it’s taken everything out of me. Now that it’s over... God...” He scrubbed his hand over his face. “I just want to be with you.” He hoped the desperation in his voice didn’t turn her off.

“I’m right here.” She handed him his plate. “We don’t have to rush. Stay as long as you like.”

Forever?“Do you mean that?”

“Every word,” she assured him. “Plus, my family won’t let me lift a finger downstairs, so I’m all yours.”

He loved the sound of that.

Hunger gnawing at his gut, he downed two slidersin four bites, then took a breath to sip the excellent wine.

Lyric ate more slowly beside him, just watching him.

“What?” he asked around a bite of the third slider.

“I just... It feels like some of the pieces fell into place and others I’m still trying to figure out. Most of all, I’m just happy you’re here. I could just stare at you for hours.”

He chuckled. “The view will be better after I have a shower, a shave, and a haircut.”

She slid her arm over his shoulders and leaned into him. “I like you all dark and dangerous.”

He rubbed his hand down her thigh.

She hissed in pain.

He immediately released her. “I’m sorry, Angel. I didn’t mean—”

She kissed him to shut him up. “I know. I’m fine. The other side of me isn’t bruised.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” He’d take care of her and kiss all the hurts better.

“So was everyone in the MC arrested?”

He shook his head and forked up the last of his mac and cheese. “No. Lobo has probably been released already. He didn’t know what Maria was running out of the club with four of the members.” He took the bite and set his empty plate aside and turned to her. “I killed Bleaker in December when he tried to kill Kenna.”
