She crosses her arms and her dress rides farther up her pale, supple thighs. “You don’t know the first thing about me, and I want to keep it that way.”

“Oh, I know a little something about you.”

Not appreciating my chuckle, she glares up at me. “If you’re referring to our moment in the library, you can rest easy knowing that’s never happening again.”

She’s a terrible liar, and it both fascinates and turns me on to know I can read her so easily.

“W-where are you taking me?” she asks, shifting to look over my shoulder as I pass the drive in front of the main building. “You said the edge of the lawn, and in case you didn’t notice, it’s back there.”

“I’m driving you home.”

She outright gawks at that, her cute little twang coming out to play. “You’re outta your damn mind.”

“Don’t worry. I won’t breathe a word of you borrowing a little help from an out-of-towner.”

Her body goes taut before she sighs. “Shit. I left my phone with my friend, and she’s totally going to freak when she can’t get a hold of me.”

“You can use my phone to text her. It’s in my pocket.”

That earns me a suspicious look. “I’m not reaching into your pocket, Rowan.”

“Why not? Scared something might bite you?”

Her face and chest flush beautifully, ratcheting my pulse by several beats.

“I never know when you’re joking.”

“I’m dead serious,” I say. “I’m not putting you down until we reach the car, so if you’d like to give your friend a heads up, you’d better get to digging.”

With a huff, she concedes. “Which pocket?”

“The right one.”

I know I’m a bastard for this, but my god… Her nails scraping my thigh through the thin material and her ass bumping my chest as she searches is enough to make me groan.

It’s impossible to hide my amusement when she gasps, “That one’s empty, Rowan.”

“Is it?”

Molly scrunches her nose at me as we approach the Corvette I’ve been driving, and I lower her down on wobbly feet. She dusts herself off before holding her hand out for my phone impatiently.

“Feel better?” I ask after she’s sent the message and handed it back to me.

“Yes. I told her you’re taking me straight home and that you’re most likely not a serial killer, so it’d be cool if you didn’t kill me or anything.”

I slip my suit jacket off and drape it over her shivering shoulders. “I’ll do my very best.”

Her head cants as she tightens it around her, and even puffy eyed and red-nosed, she’s strikingly beautiful. “I knew it. You are teasing me.”

Fuck me, I wish.

Unfortunately, the kind of teasing I’d like to engage in isn’t what she means.

She glances up suddenly, and curious, I follow her gaze. For a moment, I’m stunned by the thousands of stars sprinkled across the night sky.

“Pretty amazing, huh?” she asks, a note of wonder in her voice. “Bet you don’t get views like this in the city.”

“No, we don’t,” I admit.
