“I didn’t tell him to get bitten by a fucking snake.”

I glared at Knight, fighting back the urge to punch him in the face. “You’re such an asshole.”

He looked up at me, a bored expression on his face. “Your words wound me,” he said woodenly. “Whatever will I do now?”

“You won’t be saying that when Maggie comes after you.”

That seemed to snap him out of his lackluster concern for our friend. His jaw ticked in irritation, and I could tell I’d finally gotten through to him. “Fine, what would you suggest we use to cure him?”

I thought about it for a moment. I was no medic, but there had to be something we could use. “Weed,” I said, a grin on my face.

“Weed to cure him?” Rocco laughed. “That’s funny.”

“Weed has medicinal purposes, and it’s grown in warm climates. We should be able to find some easily.”

“It won’t do any good,” Rocco snapped. “It’s not going to do a damn thing to help him.”

“You don’t know for sure unless you try,” I argued.

“Can I just point out,” Lola spoke up, “that we’re in the middle of the fucking jungle? The river is dangerous enough, and you want us to dock to find weed?”

“Hunter, back me up here. You can see the benefits, right?”

“Hey, marijuana is great for pain relief, even PTSD symptoms, but allergic reactions? I’ve never heard of it. And how do you plan on applying it?”

Frustrated, I turned to the last guy that might support me. “Wolf, come on, man.”

He shrugged. “I say we try it. You never know, it could be the miracle cure.”

“Seriously?” Rocco grumbled, stepping forward. “You want to try and cure him with weed?”

They all looked around at each other, but finally, Knight stepped forward. “I say we try it. Like he said, what’s the worst that could happen?”

“We could get stranded on the river,” Lola pointed out. “Someone’s been following us for the past two hours. They could attack and kill us.”

“Wow, I like your faith in our skills,” I snorted.

“This is the jungle, their territory.”

“How do you know we’re dealing with natives? It could be literally anyone else.”

“Because others wouldn’t move so quietly through the jungle,” she said, her eyes scanning the shoreline. “Fine, you want to do this, you go ashore.”

“Fine,” I snapped. “Someone has to do the job. It looks like I’m the only one willing to do what’s necessary.”

“You’re the only one afraid of Maggie,” Rocco retorted.

“Hey, you have no idea what it’s like to see her when she’s about to have a baby. It’s the scariest fucking thing in the world.”

I was pretty sure I was still traumatized from all the times I’d seen Maggie’s vagina. There was no way I was going through that again. Not to mention that the stakes were higher because we’d literally run away just as she was about to have a baby. She was already pissed. If I brought back a dead Cap, I would be a dead Sinner.

“Alright, let’s do this shit,” Knight snapped. “Get us to shore.”

“You’re going with him?” Lola asked. “Are you crazy?”

Knight looked back at me, shaking his head slightly. “He did save my wife’s life. If he went ashore and got himself killed, I would never forgive myself.”

I pressed my hand to my chest. “I’m truly touched, man.”
