Find out everything there is to know about those two boys. I want the report by morning.

The date was for tomorrow night, so I needed that information as soon as possible.

Anne:

I already put our IT specialist on it. You should have something about the Galvin kid in your inbox in no more than two hours. A report on the Stanford kid should follow within another couple of hours.

Me:

Excellent work. Thank you.

According to the file in front of me, Comden Stanford—I wondered how often people accidentally called him Condom—had made the reservation. His friend, Awstynn Galvin—even his name made him sound like a pretentious prick—was the kid who mistakenly believed he was going to take my girl on a date.

Me:

Call the restaurant. Cancel the reservation.

Anne:

Yes, sir.

We still had a week to go before Jenna’s birthday, but the time had come to get a few things straight with her.

CHASE

“Hey, sunshine,” I greeted Jenna softly as I approached her in the NICU.

She rocked a tiny, one-week-old preemie who had decided to make her appearance three months early.

Jenna raised her head, and the adoration in her eyes made my body clench like it did every time I saw how she showered love on these babies. It took a lot of control to keep from dragging her to the nearest empty room and give her one of our own to look forward to.

But when she smiled up at me, the happiness in her expression soothed me, spreading warmth throughout my body. I knew she enjoyed being with me, and her sweet blushes gave away her crush. But I wasn’t sure if she’d completely fallen for me. If not, once I was free to shower her with my love and make her scream in ecstasy, I doubted it would take long.

“Are you ready to go?”

Jenna glanced longingly at the little bundle in her arms, and my dick throbbed. It was probably less than sane to be hot and hungry for my girl in a hospital nursery, but when it came to Jenna, there was no rationality involved.

“Yeah. Let me just put her back in her bed.”

Carefully, she stood, then tenderly set the little baby in her bassinet.

I wanted to drag Jenna into my arms and hug her as I kissed her forehead before assuring her that her time was coming. Soon, she would have a baby that she’d never have to leave. But I couldn’t tip my hand quite that much yet.

Outside the NICU, some nurses called good night to me, and I lifted my chin in response. When I placed my hand on Jenna’s back, she stiffened just the tiniest bit, but she didn’t shrug off my touch as I guided her to the exit.

She was quiet during the walk back to my office. The same was true while I gathered the papers I needed and stuffed them in my briefcase. Every time I glanced at her, she watched me with an intensity that I very much wanted to ask her about. But I had a feeling that she was trying to work something out in her mind, and I needed to let her get through it before demanding to know what she was thinking.

Linus waited at the curb, but he didn’t bother getting out since I always waved him off and opened the door for Jenna myself. We climbed into the car and got settled, sitting in comfortable silence for a bit.

Finally, Jenna turned to face me and cocked her head to the side. “Do you want children?”

Her question surprised me at first, then I mentally chuckled as it dawned on me that in all the time I’d been probing her for answers, I’d given her very few of my own.

“A whole houseful,” I answered with a grin.

She smiled sweetly, and I couldn’t help adding, “I intend to start working on them in the very, very near future.”
