“Anyone care for a Tic-Tac?” Kristin asked, pulling a small container of the little white breath mints out of her shoulder bag, and offering it to us.

“No, thanks,” I said.

Logan shook his head.

Kristin shrugged and popped a couple of tablets in her mouth, sucking on them noisily.

I sighed and glanced at my watch. We’d been standing there for at least half an hour, and the clock was ticking. I was as anxious to catch the murderer as Logan, but Kristin and I needed to get going on the Edward situation.

Just then Logan’s phone vibrated. He stared down at the screen for a moment and then up at us.

“Tim says that Blake just paid for their drinks. He and the woman he’s with are about to exit the bar. This is it, guys.”

I sucked in my breath, my nerves as taut as tightrope wires. Kristin patted her hair with a shaky hand.

A minute later I caught the sound of footsteps and a woman’s giggle.

“Oh, Blake, you are so sexy! I don’t think I can wait to have you. Want to duck into the alley with me and be naughty?

“Your wish is my command, baby girl. I aim to please.”

“Come,” Logan whispered, pulling us quickly behind a large dumpster. We crouched down to stay out of sight.

“Here?” Blake’s voice came from not more than a yard or two away from us.

“Here is perfect,” the woman purred.

Slurping noises met our ears. Kristin stuck her tongue out like she was gagging, which is exactly how I felt.

“I have a surprise for you,” the woman said.

“Oh, really? I like surprises,” Blake replied, his voice husky.

“Well, you might not like this one.” The woman’s laugh was more like a cackle. “Because I’m going to kill you! You are a piece of shit and don’t deserve to live! You’re just the same as them! All you bastards who hurt women deserve to die!”

Logan leaped out from behind the dumpster. “Stop right there! Hold up your hands! What the heck?”

Kristin and I immediately scrambled out from our hiding place.

In front of us stood a tall, thin woman about our own age with straight black hair that hung to her waist. She was dressed in a short leather skirt, black sweater, and a black leather jacket. Her feet were clad in a pair of black, knee-high boots with stiletto heels at least four, maybe even five, inches in height. Her fingers were tipped with long red acrylic nails in the coffin-shape style.

The woman was definitely dressed for a mission. What was most disturbing, however, was the fact that Blake was now levitating upside-down in mid-air.

“Trixie!” Kristin cried. “What are you doing?”

The woman gasped, and the hand she’d had raised in the air wavered, breaking the enchantment. Blake dropped to the ground.

“Holy crap!” he yelled, rubbing his shoulder as he got to his feet. “I’ve clearly had too much to drink! I’m outta here!”

He ran out of the alley as Trixie narrowed her eyes at us.

“You ruined my reaping!” she snarled furiously. “But since that one got away, I’ll take this one instead!”

She raised her hand and slung a fireball at Logan. It hit him directly in the heart, and he fell to the pavement.

“You witch!” I cried.

“Let’s get her!” yelled Kristin. At the same time, we both chucked a paralyzing spell over Trixie. Thankfully it worked and she was frozen in place. Nothing moved except her mouth, which was unfortunate.
