“I don’t like him,” Kaj said tightly.

“I don’t, either.” Molly started the vehicle. “We’re going to lose him.” She left the lot, checking her rearview mirror. “He’s in pursuit.”

“Too bad I dropped Czar off at your sister’s place, Molly,” Phin said. “I’d like to let him deal with that asshole cop.”

Kaj sent a text to Elijah. Had to leave for a bit. Be back as soon as I can. Love you.

Love you too. Elijah’s reply came with an attached photo of him in his hospital bed with Lucien and Molly’s sister, Chelsea, standing by his side. Kaj had only met the woman a few times, but she was nearly as fierce as Molly.

“Elijah’s fine,” Kaj said aloud. “Who’s guarding the others, Molly?”

“I called in some of the guys Burke uses on a part-time basis,” she said. “Burke, Jace, and MaryBeth are covered, just in case Corey or Bobby are closer than we think and go after them. It’s not likely, but we’ll err on the side of caution. André’s family is with him. His dad’s a retired cop and called in some of his buddies to stand watch. Everyone is fine.”

“Good.” He was sliding his phone into his pocket when it buzzed with an incoming call from a number he didn’t recognize. His heart started pounding again. “Yes?” he answered, praying that Val was all right.

“ADA Cardozo, this is Drysdale. Tell Miss Sutton to slow down. She’s driving erratically at a high rate of speed. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were trying to lose me.”

“I’ll tell her.” Ending the call, he gave in to his urge to snarl. “Drysdale says to...”

“Tell me what?” Molly asked.

But Kaj was staring at the phone in his hand. His personal phone.

“Kaj?” Molly pressed. “What did Drysdale say to you?”

Both Drysdale and Corey had called him on his personal phone. Kaj only gave his number to those he allowed to call him Kaj, as a general rule. And Elijah, of course.

Val had it, as did the rest of Burke’s group. Genie and her husband, René, had it.

He hadn’t even given it to Reuben yet.

His breath hitched. “André,” he murmured. André had had it, too. And that was all.

“Is André all right?” Molly scowled at her rearview. Drysdale must have still been behind them.

Drysdale. Kaj had thought that the man was a misogynist after he’d thrown Val’s assault in her face, but now it was clear. “Drysdale is André’s leak.”

“Say more,” Molly said calmly before taking an abrupt turn onto a side road. Horns behind them blared. “Because he’s still behind us.”

“I have two phones. You all have my personal number, but not many people do. I gave it to André. Drysdale just called me on my personal cell.”

“You think André gave it to Drysdale?” Phin asked.

Kaj shook his head. “André wouldn’t share my personal information, but Drysdale might have found it in André’s phone after he stabbed him, because Corey called me on my personal cell, too.”

Molly sucked in a breath. “Sonofabitch.”

“And André had asked him to check the surveillance video to figure out who’d overheard me talking about Elijah’s math meet,” Kaj added. “Now that portion of the video’s gone.”

“What do we do about him?” Phin asked coldly.

Kaj clenched his jaw. “I want to kill him, but we can use him to redirect Corey. I need Corey away from Val or at least to distract his attention from her.” Because if Drysdale knew a piece of information, odds were good that Corey and Bobby would, too.

“What do you want to do?” Molly asked.

“We tell him that we’re following a lead to find a missing witness,” Kaj decided. “If he’s working with Corey, he’ll know that means Bella Butler.”

Molly nodded. “We’ll give him a fake address. He’ll tell Corey, who’ll go after Bella.”
