"Are they on the chopping block?" My heart falls when their eyes connect to one another, and Seger swallows hard.
Zeppelin blows out a breath, taking another small bite.
"They're on a one-way trip to River. Something she's not going to fucking like," Seger grumbles. "She's going to fucking murder us."
"Why?" I ask, furrowing my brows.
"Because you Wests have got something in your blood about needing more than one partner. You're all your very own why-choose novel," Olivia snorts, shaking her head.
“Don’t worry, she’s fucking collected one, too. She knows from experience,” Seger says with a smirk.
My eyes find Olivia, who blushes. “Well, yeah. But he didn't even know it until you knocked on our door.”
Seger shrugs. “Well, he does now, doesn't he?”
“He's come to terms with it. He always knew he was adopted by that asshole who raised him. So, I think it was a relief to know he had you guys and River and now, you.” Her dark eyes find mine, and she offers me a soft smile.
"Gross," Jericho mumbles, reaching over to squeeze my leg. "I really don't want to think about my cousin in that type of situation."
Olivia rolls her brown eyes and flips him off without a response.
Zeppelin frowns. "River and Whispered Words have a very deep history together."
"You mean a fucking kid?" Seger quips, eyeing Zepp’s half-eaten steak on his plate. “You gonna finish that, man?” he asks, earning a glare. “Fine, take your sweet time like usual. But don’t be fucking surprised when I swipe it off your plate.” He snorts. “But yeah, I'd consider walking away from a fucking kid some deep-ass history. But I believe in her. She'll do her damn job, and then, she'll whip them into shape. Like she does every other band out there."
"Wait. Our sister was in…"
"A relationship with an entire band, yes," Zeppelin says, confirming. “And then they left her for some asinine reason while she was pregnant.”
"They're douchebags. Don't meet your idols," Seger quips, polishing off another piece. "But we still have to give them a fucking chance since they're under contract."
"River would never admit how much she hurts knowing they're in the same vicinity as her," Zeppelin adds, shaking his head.
"Anyways," Olivia hums, sitting up straight. "The reason we're gathered here today is because of you." She looks straight at me with inspecting eyes.
"Right," I say, swallowing hard.
"Before we get down to fucking business," Seger says, bringing my attention to him. "Blink twice if you're okay here in mafia land. Blink once if you want safe passage away from here."
"She's just fine," Jericho grumbles, squeezing my leg again.
"I wasn't asking you, mafia asshole. I was asking my sister. Who I just met and now is all of a sudden married." He narrows his eyes at Jericho. “Care to fucking elaborate?”
"I have lions you could meet," Arrow quips, biting into a dinner roll. “They’re big and ferocious. They love new friends.” He grins at Seger, sending him a withering stare that would make any normal person quiver in their shoes.
Seger pales slightly. "You say lions? Bro, he said fucking lions,” he whispers frantically, looking at Zepp.
"Leave the damn lions out of this," Olivia grumbles, waving a hand. “You don't need to take them there. They're looking out for their family.”
Arrow grins. "You’ll love them. They're amazing. Max and Nova. Journey got well acquainted with them today." He wiggles his brows when I pinch the bridge of my nose.
“Yeah, they were so wonderful.” I roll my eyes, turning my attention back to my brothers who patiently wait.
"Moving on," Zeppelin says, folding his hands on the table. "We have to ensure that our sister is okay and not being forced into anything. Liv has more than vouched for you three, claiming you’re good men."
Jericho stiffens beside me, his fingers clinging hard to my hand. I can't tell if I'm an anchor for him, settling him down. Or if he's sending me a warning to hush. “You don’t sound so confident,” Jericho says smoothly, raising a brow.
“If you had a fucking sister, what would you think when she all of sudden got married to a guy like you?” Seger asks, glaring in his direction.
