“Where is my sister going?” I grit out with authority, standing tall.

It’s high time to stand up to my damn monster and show him what he’s created.

He studies me with an intense eye. “There’s the Little Snake I created. The monster in the making. Just know, if you harm me, then your sister will never see the light of day again.”

“You’re bluffing,” I say, tilting my head. “You have no say over what happens to her now. You sold her, too.”

He smirks. “Ah, what a fast learner you are. He paid a pretty penny for retribution against her and you.”

“Me?” I hiss, eyeing him when he smirks.

“Of course…” he trails off, whipping his head to the stage when a loud voice comes over the speakers.

“Attention!”

“What the hell?” Gabriel murmurs, taking several steps with me in tow toward the stage, finally stopping near the first step and he stiffens.

“My name is Ernie, and I’d like to thank the Viotto Family for coming together in one place. This makes it much easier to do this,” the man says in a low voice.

I stiffen when the sound of ripping happens, and I peek on stage and almost stumble back. Jericho, Arrow, and Shepp are all held at gunpoint by several people on stage—the catering party. The people who walked around with trays, offering food and drinks.

Pure panic swirls through my veins when Jericho’s worried eyes find mine. He doesn’t say a word or nod his head, but I can read his expression as clear as day. He wants me to run and not stay here. I shake my head and lick my lips, finding Arrow’s eyes. He quickly darts them to the crowd, avoiding me at all costs. And Shepp does the same. Eventually, all three of them are looking at the silent crowd, gawking at the situation.

But if I can get away from Gabriel, I’m helping them get out of there.

“What the hell is happening?” I ask, frantically looking at Gabriel, who doesn’t make a move. In fact, his facial expression doesn’t change.

“Well, this is our cue, Little Snake,” he hums, looking at his son on stage with a gun to his temple. “We need to make our exit.”

“What? No!” I hiss, backing up and shaking my head, attempting to pull out of his tight grip again. “I’m not going anywhere with you! Aren’t you going to do something?” I gesture to the stairs, continuing to take several steps back.

Panic swells inside me. He’s eyeing me like a piece of fucking meat with little regard to the situation unfolding around us. Loud pops begin to fill my ears from beyond the curtain. Screams erupt and heavy footfalls sound through the entire ballroom, much like a loud stampede echoing in my brain. Shrill screams echo from several women in the crowd when two more loud gunshots ring through the room.

My heart rate kicks up, and I stumble back, shaking my head. Sweat forms in my palms at the realization of what's happening. We’re under attack. But why isn’t anyone fighting back?

“What is happening?” My eyes turn to Gabriel, who smirks at me with a knowing look.

“Many alliances can be found, even within the enemy,” is all he says before he steps up to me again, still holding me tight, and then yanks me away from the stage. “Now, before things get even more harried, be a good Little Snake and come with me.”

“No!” I shout, digging my nails into his arm, attempting to peel myself away from him as he drags me through a dark room at the back of the stage.

“Oh, yes,” he hums. “Shadow is so eager to meet you, too. Although, you’ve already met before.”

We both still when three gunshots pop off on the stage. My heartbeat skyrockets, and I shake my head.

“All part of the deal,” he hums with a fake sadness, rolling his lips in. “Such a shame, too. Those boys were such good soldiers. Well, until they decided they wanted to go behind my back and attempt a hostile takeover. I’ve been the King for over twenty-six years. I’m not about to let three boys take over my kingdom,” he grunts, dragging me along.

“You… You had them killed?” I cry out, throwing my fist into his shoulder, attempting to free myself from him again.

He stops suddenly near a door near the rear of the backstage area and looks me over. “Not yet. But I made you think I did, didn’t I?” he questions with a shrug. “But you’ve shown me once again that my training did nothing to absolve you of your human attachments. Everyone is a tool, Little Snake. Like you. Like them. Now, on the count of three, they will drop dead. The people on stage are waiting for my say so. So, it’s either you or them. What will it be?”

My eyes widen when he pulls his cell phone out again and taps a few times, hovering his finger over the bright screen. “Your call. In three, two…”

“No! Wait! I’ll… I’ll go with you. Just please don’t hurt them,” I whisper with desperation, tossing everything I learned from him out the window. I could leave them out to dry. It would be easy to nod at him and say yeah, please murder them.

But, I think I’ve fallen for my kidnappers over the course of our time together. They’ve woven themselves into every broken facet of my soul and pieced me back together with themselves. Our darknesses are interwoven. They’ll forever be a part of me. So, there’s no way around this. They need to live. They can still defeat my monster.

“They were never against you,” I say, eyeing him as my shoulders slump.
