My eyebrows lift, a cocky smirk on my lips. It’s nice to know she spent some time investigating my page as well, though it’s not likely she gathered much from it. I’ve never really been big on the whole social media thing. When you work with kids, you’ve got to be extra careful what you put out there. Most of my pictures and posts are things I was tagged in by Jon or Allison.

“You’ve been cyberstalking me?” I tease, chuckling as more pink stains her cheeks. “Tell me, what did you learn from snooping?”

She rolls her eyes but doesn’t deny it. “You like to spend your free time doing things like skydiving, snowboarding, and hiking. Which means you’re either adventurous, or crazy.”

A smile blossoms on her face as I huff out a laugh. “It might be fair to say I’m both. I’ve certainly been questioning my sanity lately.”

My response was meant to be humorous, but she doesn’t laugh. Her studying gaze becomes unnerving, like she’s seeing parts of me I don’t typically share. “Did you come to the bar tonight because you knew I’d be here?”

Worry swirls in my gut, causing me to hesitate, but the guilty lopsided grin on my face gives me away. “Would it freak you out if I said yes?”

She sighs. “It should, but…no. I feel oddly safe around you. There’s something about you that’s drawing me in.”

Hearing her acknowledge this strange connection between us is both a relief and torment at the same time.

I lean in until we’re dancing cheek to cheek and whisper in her ear, “I feel it too.”
