That’s a simple choice for me. I don’t want to lose him. But what if he’s not ready for everything that comes with dating a single mother?
“Oh no?” he questions, walking toward me like a lion stalking his prey. “What do you call last night then?”
“The benefits package?” I mock with a shrug and smirk.
“Is that so?” Laughing, he pulls the covers from my grasp, leaving me as exposed as he is. His eyes wander leisurely up my body, setting my skin on fire. Adrenaline courses through my veins, teetering between desire and fear. “Tell me more about these benefits,” he purrs, grabbing my feet. “Who’s reaping them? You or me?”
“Both,” I pant as he yanks me to the end of the bed.
“Hmmm…” He drops to his knees and spreads my legs, positioning himself between them. “I’m not fully convinced.” He kisses my inner thigh, one then the other, slowly making his way up. “I think I need another full review of the package.”
His breathy words tease the apex of my thighs as he gazes at me through hooded eyes, a mischievous grin spreading across his face before he dives in.

My heart feels heavy and light at the same time as I watch Lizzy get dressed. She gave me her body last night and again this morning, but she’s still holding back.
“So, how does the whole friends with benefits thing work?” I sneer. “Do I get to take advantage of these benefits whenever I want? Or are they only available to me in certain places, during the right situations?” My tone is more hostile than I intended, and her cheeks go red as she narrows her eyes at me.
“I don’t know, Brenden.”
Guilt twists in my gut, but I cling to anger. Friends with benefits? Is she fucking serious? After everything, she can’t expect me to pretend we’re just friends.
I’d move heaven and earth to be with her.
Maybe it’s time to accept that she doesn’t feel the same way. Maybe I’m lying to myself by believing she’s capable of giving me more than this.
“Well, don’t you think it’s something we should work out?” I get up from the bed and close in on her. “I’m just trying to be sure I understand the terms of this arrangement.”
She sighs, her tone flat and features smooth when she turns toward the door and says, “I should go take a shower. Our flight leaves at ten, so we should head to the airport no later than eight.”
My stomach sinks as panic ripples through me. It feels like she’s already slipping through my fingers. “Wait.” I reach for her arm to keep her from walking away. “I’m sorry. Please don’t leave angry.”
She takes a deep breath, her shoulders rising and falling before she turns to face me again.
I cup her face in my hands, forcing her glossy eyes to meet mine. “Don’t you get it? I don’t want to be friends with benefits. I’m tired of playing it safe. You’re it for me, Lizzy. I’m all in. Completely yours. If you want me.”
“Really?” she says on a hiccup, a single tear streaming down her face.
I smile and nod, swiping the tear dry with my thumb. “I’ve never been more certain of anything in my entire life. The only question here is what you want. Do you want to be with me?”
“Yes,” she confesses.
My head spins as I pull her into my arms, my heart swelling in my chest when her lips connect with mine.
