“Good morning, beautiful.” Brenden wraps his arm around my waist, spooning me.

It’s the first time I asked him to stay here with me. It always felt too weird. This is the home I shared with Xander. We started our family in this house. But I didn’t want Brenden to leave last night.

Sleep is so much more peaceful in his arms. It’s hard enough being away from him as it is.

“Good morning.” A warmth spreads through me as I lock my fingers with his, realizing Saturday is once again becoming my favorite day of the week.

“Fuck, I love this,” Brenden groans, then kisses the tattoo on my shoulder, his hardness pressing into my backside.

“Brenden,” I scold, rolling over on my back to face him, though my lower abdomen is already beginning to clench with need. “You know the rules, no getting frisky before I’ve had my coffee.”

“Lord, woman. You and your damn rules.” He brushes his fingers across my cheek before dipping down to kiss my neck and nibble at my ear. An involuntary moan escapes my lips as I release a deep breath. He knows exactly how to get me worked up—coffee or not. “You make me crazy, you know that?” he asks, his breath hitting the spot right below my ear, sending chills through me.

“Yeah, I know, but you love me anyway.”

“Hell yes, I do.”

His intense gray eyes meet mine, and my heart stutters. I never thought it’d be possible to love someone or be loved by someone after losing Xander. Now that I have it with Brenden, it’s both wonderful and terrifying.

“So, what’s on your agenda today?” he asks.

“I’ve got to go pick the kids up from my parents’ house. I told the kids we’d go to Jumpstreet and then Culver’s for lunch. Would you like to come with us?”

A bright smile lights his handsome face when he says, “Really?” There’s so much happiness in his features, he looks almost childlike. It’s completely adorable. “You want me to come with you guys? Are you sure?”

Brenden’s hung out with the kids a few times, but he never pushes the issue. He worries it’ll seem like he’s trying to take Xander’s place. It’s not like that, though. I love Brenden, and the kids adore him. He should be a part of our lives, and we want him to be.

I run my fingers through his messy hair. “I’m sure. The kids will be thrilled you’re coming along.”

“Just the kids?” he asks, quirking his brow at me.

“Yep, just the kids.” I force my lips into a frown. “I’ll personally be miserable having you with me all day, but I’m willing to make that sacrifice for my children.”

“Miserable, huh?” he says with a laugh, positioning himself on top of me and between my legs. “Well, perhaps I should leave then.”

He leans down and starts kissing a trail down my neck to my bare chest. My body shifts below him, rubbing against him. I whine in protest as he pulls away and smirks.

“Okay, fine,” I relent, bringing him close again. “You got me. I want you to come with us today. I actually enjoy your company very much, because I loveyou very much.”

“Damn,” he growls out, “I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of hearing you say that. Say it again.”

Smiling, I lock my eyes on his and cup my hands around his face. “I love you, Brenden Scott.”

“Come, boy, come sit down. Sit down and rest,” I say, animating my voice.

I was thrilled when Sean asked me to read him The Giving Tree before his mother tucked him in for the night. Simply getting to spend the day with Lizzy and her kids has already made this one of the best days of my life, but this moment makes it that much sweeter.

“And the boy did, and the tree was happy.” Smiling, I close the book and look over at Sean, who’s trying to keep his drooping eyes open.

“All right, little man, I’m going to let your mom tuck you in now. Thank you for letting me hang out with you today.”

“You’re welcome,” he says, yawning.
