“Yep! A water slide!”

“No water slide,” Loki told her firmly. “But I’ve done some research and found a slide that should work.”

“Oh yay! Thanks, Ki-Ki.”

He kissed the top of her head and grabbed her bagel, buttering it. Then he took the sippy cup from her hand and replaced it with the bagel.

She kept talking, pausing to take a mouthful of bagel.

Remy’s gaze was intent on them and Loki paused. This was something he was used to doing all the time.

Remy just nodded at him.

“That sounds amazing, baby girl,” Remy said. “You’re lucky Loki can build all of that for you.”

“He’s the bestest.” She laid her face against his bicep.

Bestest, huh?

“How about we work on the treehouse for a few hours,” Remy said. “And then maybe after lunch we can go to that store you were talking about. The one with toys for Bigs and Littles.”

Loki glanced down at Isa as she blushed with pleasure.

“That sounds like the perfect idea.”

Remy finished hammering in a board.

With the two of them working, the treehouse was coming along really quickly.

And with Isa’s supervision, of course.

She was sitting in a chair that Loki had set up for her, with Razzie in her lap. There were a pair of oversized sunglasses perched on her nose. They were heart-shaped with rhinestones all the way around the edge.

Today she was wearing a gorgeous pink pinafore and black tights as well as a long-sleeved white shirt underneath. She also had on a pair of pink boots that Loki had put on her while she was telling Remy more about the treehouse.

The way he took care of her . . . making sure she ate and drank . . . that she had everything she needed, it spoke of familiarity that meant this had been their rhythm for years.

“Can I comes up?” She cleared her throat. “I mean can I come up?”

She was clearly trying to stop herself from going fully into Little headspace, but she’d been riding that edge all morning. Remy didn’t like that she was holding back.

He wondered how he could help her feel more comfortable.

“Yep, just let me get the ladder and hold it for you,” Loki said, climbing down the tree.

“Ki-Ki, I can climb a tree.”

“In a pinafore dress?” Loki replied.

“It would be a challenge, but I think I could do it.”

“You’ll take the ladder,” Remy told her firmly.

Loki got the ladder and held it while she climbed up with Razzie in her mouth. Remy reached through and lifted her up the rest of the way.

She drew Razzie out of her mouth and smiled up at him. “Isn’t it great in here?”
