“Don’t do that, Jon,” I warned, but my warning fell on deaf ears when he picked me up. I dropped the saddlebag onto the floor to wrap myself around him.

“I think we can spare five minutes,” he murmured against my lips as his hand slipped between us. My toes curled when he began massaging my clit through my pajama pants.

“We shouldn’t.”

“Why not?”

“What about my injuries?” I taunted, nipping at his bottom lip.

“You seem fine.”

“Gee…if only someone who went through years of medical school would’ve told us that,” I drawled as I squirmed in his hold.

“I’ll listen better next time,” Jonathan said reassuringly.

“Good. Now put me down.”

“I only need four minutes of your time,” he pleaded.

“Four?”

“Three.”

“Okay, it’s gone from five to four to three. Put me down because you’re not serious. Plus, I don’t want to be watching our children open presents with cum leaking out of me.”

“Sounds like a good time to me,” he joked, setting me on my feet. “There’s another present for you in your saddle bag.”

I snatched the bag up and searched the pockets until my fingers grasped a velvet box. “Is it?”

“Open it and see,” he encouraged. I didn’t hesitate another second and cracked the little blue box open. My eyes bulged, and my jaw hit the floor at the sight of the platinum and white gold diamond ring. “It’s a six-carat round brilliant heirloom from myfather’s side. It’s funny because I asked him for the ring when I wanted to propose to Eliza, and he asked me if I was that hard R word we’re not supposed to say anymore. He dismissed me, and I’m glad he did. Eliza would’ve pawned it at the first sign of trouble. I asked him for the ring this time around, and he didn’t hesitate to tell me to get in the car. He drove to the bank, retrieved the ring from the safe deposit box, and tossed it to me.”

“What did he say?” I asked through my tears. “It’s not like Marcus to not say something.”

Jonathan chuckled as he dropped to a knee. “You know him well, but we don’t need to go into that.”

“We do,” I insisted, removing the ring from the box.

“Forgive me, but he said, ‘Warner, you might not be so retarded after all,’ Jonathan mocked.

Jesus Christ.

“I guess I’ll take that as a compliment.”

“The highest compliment one could receive. I’ll make this quick, seeing how no one appreciates my speeches. I felt something for you as soon as you and Kiyah entered my office. It wasn’t love but a strong urge to protect the two of you. You both joined our family, and that’s when our lives changed for the better. I could go on forever about everything you do for me and my family, but the greatest gift you’ve given us is your love, and I hope you’ll allow me to pay you back for the rest of our lives. And I want you to know that while Kiyah’s last name may be Houston, she’s just as much a Baker as the rest of us and will be taken care of as such. And maybe one day, if she wants, we’ll make it official, and she’ll take my last name—”

“Yes!” I shrieked, dropping to my knees to hug him.

“I didn’t finish,” he said, laughing at my eagerness.

I didn’t need to hear another fucking word.

“I want you to know that I didn’t take asking you to marry me lightly. I told you I’d marry you as soon as my baggage washandled, and I meant that. I also visited Rory out of respect for him.”

“Fuck. Can you stop being so fucking perfect?” I demanded, half sobbing and snotting everywhere.

“I’m far from perfect, Kierra, but you make me better.”

“We make each other better,” I corrected.
