“Damn. So, what’s the good news?”

A slow grin spread across Anthony’s face.

He’s such an ass. I already know from that shit-eating grin that he’ll tell me something fucked up.

“My baby won.”

“Do us all a favor and don’t procreate anymore,” I drawled, pushing myself off the couch.

“What are you talking about? I’m already making plans for baby number three!” Anthony shouted after me as I hunted for the take-out menus in the kitchen’s junk drawer.

“Anthony James, you can take your plans and shove them where the sun doesn’t shine,” I heard Simone fuss from the stairs.

Anthony James? He’s fucked.

“Ms. Simone!” my boys shouted. I had no doubt they probably dog-piled her, pining for hugs and kisses that they claimed she gave the best. I returned with a Chinese take-out menu.

“Hey, Simone.”

“Hey, Jon,” she replied sleepily. “How was your day?”

“It was good. I possibly have a new client.”

“Interesting case?” she asked, sitting on the couch. I watched as all the children flocked to her as if she were Mother Goose.

She has a gentle soul.

“It is.”

“What’s it about, if you don’t mind me asking?” she said as she received cheek kisses from Casey.

“My potential client is a widow due to a workplace accident on an oil rig.”

“Oh, no. That’s awful. Do you think you can win?”

“It’s possible, but she’s a little hesitant about hiring me because of how I want to present the case.”

“Well, if anyone can do it—it’s you.”

“Thank you for the vote of confidence. I’m ordering Chinese. What would you like?”

Simone touched a balled fist to her mouth and excused herself, tossing children left and right before running to the nearest bathroom. Anthony turned the volume up on thetelevision so the children wouldn’t hear her vomiting and stood up with a sigh.

“Order whatever you want. You know what I like.”

“I can tell Simone isn’t very keen on Chinese, but should I order her some white rice or chicken soup?”

“Both. If she doesn’t eat it, then the garbage disposal surely will.”

“Why would you waste good food like that?”

“I was referring to Nori. Watch them while I check on Simone?”

“No problem.”

I felt tugging at my pants and looked down to find Nori motioning to her mouth. Anthony was right. She was a human garbage disposal—if you had it, she wanted it.
