Harlow chuckled again. “Dude, good luck with that.”

“Thanks.” Elena sighed. “I’ll need it.”

Although Harlow didn’t know exactly what happened between Elena and Skylar Ford, she had her assumptions. As did every other Maine Event fan out there in the world. Everything from dating rumors to jealousy over who was getting more solos swirled around the band’s breakup for years. Harlow had her own speculations, but they were never worth sharing with anyone.

“Anyway, I’m calling to see if you’d be interested in managing the tour for us. Assuming Skylar says yes, of course.”

Harlow fist pumped the air as she held the phone away from her ear. Scoring an account as big as a Maine Event reunion tour would be huge for herself and her entire company.

“Are you kidding me? Hell yeah, I’m interested. Hell, if you’d ask nicely I’d probably go on tour with you all again.”

“Hey, you know we’d love to have you. We can get the whole band back together, literally.”

“Well, I’m in, Elena. You can keep me posted on the Skylar situation and then we can set up a meeting and get everything in order. When are you all thinking of touring? This summer? Is that too soon?”

“I honestly don’t know,” Elena sounded frustrated. “I would know if Skylar would pick up her damn phone or respond to a text. She’s doing this on purpose, I know it.”

“Come on, Elena. Skylar would never sabotage the band like that. You know Skylar better than anyone. She’s an avoider but she’s not a dick.”

Elena’s silence told Harlow she did in fact know Harlow was right. She gave Elena a few minutes to think as she scribbled some notes on her notepad. There was no way Harlow would pass this tour off to one of her employees. It was too big and too important and maybe—just maybe—it would get her out of her burnt out funk.

“I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for being on board, Harlow.”

“You know I got Maine Event always.”

After a round of goodbyes, Harlow hung up the phone and fist pumped the air. Her management company had done well for itself over the years. Nearly eleven artists and bands were signed with them. But Harlow felt the Maine Event reunion tour could be Hawkins Management Group’s big break. It would give Harlow the perfect platform to show what made her management company the best.

Even if that was only according to her own opinion.

Picking up her empty mug, Harlow walked to the kitchen with an extra spring in her step.

“Alexa,” she called to the AI device, “play Shania Twain.”

Her favorite “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” played on the speaker as Harlow brewed herself another glass of tea in the fancy machine she’d gotten for Christmas. Dancing around in her sock-covered feet, Harlow caught a glimpse of herself in the reflection on the window. Working from home had seriously caused her wardrobe to be only sweatpants and T-shirts. Not that she minded; it hid the few extra pounds she’d added since forgoing the office space in town to save money. But Harlow knew if she went on tour, she’d need a whole new wardrobe.

Which meant she’d had to go shopping.

Which Harlow hated more than almost anything in the world.

Except maybe peas.

“Ugh,” she groaned as she snatched her mug from the machine, sloshing some of the tea out of the mug. She sulked back to her home office, where she searched several websites for clothes. “See, this is where a sister or a best friend would come in handy.”

But Harlow didn’t have either. She had been married to her work for the last few years as she worked to build her business. Harlow didn’t regret that; she knew it would all be worth it one day. It was just that that day seemed to always be further in the future than Harlow had anticipated. No matter how hard she worked, the goal was still out of reach.

Her only hope of moving the goal line closer was scoring the Maine Event reunion tour. She knew she could get them into venues nationwide without problem and knew the tour would sell out. All Harlow needed was for Skylar Ford to say yes. But Harlow wasn’t going to leave it up to fate.

Rummaging in her desk drawer, Harlow found her old address book where she kept numbers of people she didn’t regularly need but didn’t want to get rid of quite yet. She never knew when she might need one; such as now when she needs Skylar’s number. Harlow wasn’t one who could sit around and wait for answers. She’d rather get them herself.

Harlow dialed the number and pressed the phone to her ear only to hear, “We’re sorry. The number you have dialed has been disconnected or is no longer in service.”

“Ugh!” She hung up the call and dropped the phone onto the desk. It appeared that in this situation, she would have to practice patience.

At least she could make up mock tour schedules in the meantime to pass the time.
