Akio looked athim. “I heard everything. Take her home. I will explain thesituation.”

She lookedaround as more and more guards from the stronghold were pouringtoward them. Arata held her tight and took a step forward.

Warm, perfumedair wrapped around her, and she sighed. “Thanks for that. You havenow rescued me twice.”

He pulled heraway, cupped her face, and leaned in to kiss her. She leaned intohim and held his forearms.

Ivetha strokedhis arms, and when she heard laughter and giggles from around them,he lifted his head, kissed her quickly, and smiled. They were inthe marketplace.

She looked athim. “The marketplace?”

He leaned in.“Made you smile.”

She shiveredand nodded. “Thanks again for getting me out of there. My frequencypulls at a certain mentality, and that is usually the result.”

The kids lookedat her and smiled. Some were calling to their mothers and fathersso they could give Ivetha some treats.

Arata took aseat under a tree and settled her against him. The kids lined up togive her cookies and sweets, fruits and vegetables.

“Why are wedoing this?”

“Because youhave an effect on people that is not to be ignored. You are nothurting anyone; you are just being yourself. This is who youare.”

She trembled atthe impact of his voice and looked at him. “That was justmean.”

He winked andstole a cookie that one of the kids was holding out. He munched it,she hugged the little boy, and he immediately giggled and ran tohug his dad. She hugged the kids, they giggled, and she gotstrawberries, pineapples, grapes, carrot sticks that she fed toArata, and glasses of water.

Kids settledaround them on the grass after the snacks were over, and Ivethatold them stories from Aksalla and other regions.

When the sunsettook hold, Arata whispered, “Off home now.”

Ivetha smiled.“I have to get the king back home now. It’s past his bedtime.”

Arata grinned,and the adults smirked as he got to his feet with her in hisarms.

He walked upthe path toward the palace, and there was a funny smile on hislips. She did not want to ask what he was thinking about, but sheknew he was going to tell her.

Arata looked at herseriously. So, do you want actual dinner?

Ivetha nodded.“Yes, please. That was a lot of sugar.”

He got up andtyped on a terminal in the corner of his study.

He signed,Ten minutes.

“Thank you.”She walked around. “So... queen? Are you serious?”

He smiled andnodded. The archives made it clear. I can choose any bride fromany genetic grouping that isn’t my own. I choose you. It’s alreadyregistered.

“By who?” Sheblinked.

Me. I amking. I get to do all kinds of fun stuff. I eat first, too. Hegrinned, and his fangs were showing.

“Um, I havenoticed.” There were small prickles on her thighs.

His eyescrinkled with amusement. He spoke softly. “I will demonstratetonight.”
