“What?” I murmured, and looked down.

“Like I said,'' Coulter started. “Something to take the edge off.”

I shook my head, my thoughts slow as I looked at the nurse underneath me. He had no needle. He had…no…needle.

“It’s for me.” My words were dull and empty.

Panic roared, punching all the way to the surface as the room wavered and spun.

“Helene!” My sister screamed my name as I pushed upwards and shoved away.

But the moment I took a step, my knees buckled, sending me crashing to the floor. Agony burst through my knees before I shoved against the cold tiles. Even those blurred under my hand.

“Easy now.” Coulter gripped my arm and lifted, easing me upwards. “I’ve got you.”

“Get the fuck off her!” Vivienne screamed, lunging toward me.

I shook my head and the room blurred even more. “Noooo….” I slurred, reaching for her. “Take me…take me.” I met my sister’s panicked gaze. “Not her…not my?—”

The darkness closed over me before I could finish.

I tried to hold on.

I really did.

But there was nothing to hold onto as my knees refused to support me.

The last thing I remembered was Coulter’s voice as he murmured in my ear. “See you soon, Helene…see you soon.”

The Bentley’s tires squealed as I took the corners like a madman, wrenching the wheel, and jerked my gaze to Hunter, sitting beside me in the passenger seat. “How much fucking further now?” I barked.

He looked at the rich asshole’s phone, then scanned the streets ahead. “It’s just ahead.”

Just ahead?

Still, it wasn’t here. I clenched my fist and drove it against the steering wheel. “Fuck!”

Get to her.

Get…to…her.

The veins pulsed in my neck as I strangled the wheel. I tried to focus on the streets rushing toward me in a blur, but all I could hear was Thomas’ constant mumbling in the back.

“Heavenly Father, I pray you guide us with your steady hand. Help us find our way to her and watch over her.”

“Your God isn’t fucking listening.” I forced the words through clenched teeth. “And hasn’t been for a long fucking time.”

Hunter shot me a glare. One I ignored and glanced at the cell on his lap. The red marker flared on the street up ahead. I caught the shine of streetlights against the black sedan before I tapped the brakes and yanked the wheel. The bottom of the six-figure fucking car scraped as we hit the entrance of the parking lot hard and bounced.

My teeth gnashed. Kane gave a grunt behind me as I braked hard, skidding the sleek machine, and pulled up alongside the open trunk of the silver Audi.

I didn’t bother to kill the engine, just shoved the car into park and climbed out, drawing in the icy night air. Doors slammed all around me as we rounded the rear of the vehicle and strode to where St. James waited beside his trunk.

“Guns?” I demanded.
