It was the cruel, twisted smile of my sister.

My fucking cunt of a sister.

“I’m going to fucking kill her. Just so we’re clear.” I snarled, knowing how demented I sounded. “I’m going to kill our fucking sister.”

THIRTY-FOUR

Helene

Screams filtered in. Faint shrieks of terror I couldn’t hold onto. But I—I knew that terrified shriek.

Vivienne.

My sister’s name came like a gust of wind before it was snatched away. Terror slammed into me. I tried to fight through the darkness, cracking open my eyes to a blinding white light that glared down on me.

Cold pressed against my back, a hard surface. A blinding brilliance shone in my eyes.

“Easy, Helene.” A murmur filled my ear. “We’re almost done now.”

Pressure came from the inside of my knee. I forced myself to hold on, driving my lids wider to look down. Someone gripped my thighs, spreading my legs wide as someone else moved in from the other side. Someone dressed in white. A sharp sting came from where he worked on me, all the way deep inside. I winced, then moaned with the agony.

“What…what are you doing to me?”

“Just a little sting.” Another man murmured. “You’ll be all fixed up soon.”

I tried to shake my head, but it dropped backward instead, hitting the icy surface I lay on. I stared upwards, to the man holding my legs wide and I couldn’t hold onto my body, not when that wave of nothingness swallowed me.

“You’ll be good as new.” Coulter’s voice droned. “I’m going to put a baby in your belly, Helene. Do you hear me? I’m going to fuck you so hard you’ll always be full of what’s mine.”

But that emptiness moved in, taking me back under once more until I floated away again.

Screams followed.

Faint screams.

I hit something hard, driving upwards toward that murky gray light.

“What?” The word was a slur as I forced my eyes open once more.

That darkness was so heavy, wrapping around me to hold me down.

“Get the fuck OFF ME!” Someone howled.

I knew that voice. I knew that?—

With a roar, I drove myself upwards, bursting through that heavy weight that held me down.

Movement came from the corner of my vision as I cracked open my eyes. Through the murky wash of light in the corner of the room, someone fought for their life.

Help her. The faint words grew louder inside me. Help her now!

I blinked and forced open my eyes. My body weighed a ton as I lifted my head and drove numb limbs under me. “Get…get off her!” I slurred, my vision slowly sharpening.

Two men held my sister down as another one leaned over her. She kicked and bucked, her eyes wild and wide. “NO…NO..NO!” She screamed.

I shoved upwards, but my legs wouldn’t work. “Get…” I slurred. “Get the fuck off her!”

My feet moved, letting me slowly drag them under me. I stumbled, falling forward as the nurse in front of Vivienne straightened and stepped away. I swung my fist, missing them completely as the nurses let her go and backed away.
