They all had cream and no sugar, tonight anyway. I grabbed three, leaving Guild to carry the other three before we headed back to where the others waited.

“Here.” I handed Helene a mug. “Press your palms around the outside, it’ll warm you up.”

She did, closing her eyes in relief as I handed Thomas and Kane the other two, taking the last one from Guild. We drank and waited, our focus fixed on that closed door at the end of the hall. Then in an instant, it opened.

London walked out slowly, his shoulders hunched, his hands fisted by his sides. I searched the male’s tortured expression as he lifted his head. “She’s asking for you.”

I glanced at Helene. Her eyes widened. “Me?”

One nod and she turned her head, glancing at me.

“I want to come with her.” I said instantly.

Worry filled her as she glanced back at London. He scowled, not liking it one bit, still he gave a small nod. “Whatever.”

Helene handled her coffee to Hunter and rushed forward. I handed Guild my own cup and followed. It wasn’t that I wanted to see her sister. It was the pure simple fact that we were about to be in a room with three unhinged males who were pacing the floor, desperate to see if their children survived.

London headed back to the room, Helene barely a step behind, slipping inside the door for me to close it.

The moment I did, a guttural purr rose in the air, causing the hairs on my arms to stand on end. It didn’t take long before I realized what it was. A savage gleam shone in Colt’s eyes as he lifted his head from where it lay on her belly.

“I can’t work like this, DeLuca,” The woman muttered, trying to press the ultrasound wand over Vivienne’s belly only for the Son to snarl and bare his teeth. “He needs to leave.”

“No,” Vivienne croaked.

She lifted a trembling hand to his head. “He stays. They all stay.”

“Then he needs to stop that sound,” she snapped before her voice softened. “So I can try to find out if your babies are still alive.”

Vivienne lifted her gaze to the female doctor. “What do you think he’s doing?”

The woman just scowled, then looked back at him as the Son lowered his head, pressed his ear against her belly, and unleashed a keening, purring sound.

Her belly moved instantly.

The female doctor looked dumbfounded. “What…what just happened?”

The rumbling, throaty sound intensified until it resounded off the walls so loud I felt it in my teeth.

“Hurt,” Colt snarled. “They hurt her. They hurt my daughter.”

Vivienne closed her eyes and fresh tears slipped from the corners.

“They took…they took from her,” Colt growled.

“The needle,” Vivienne answered, opening her eyes to find him. “They injected something into me, but they took something else. They took blood.”

“Motherfuckers.” London turned and paced. “It wasn’t blood. They wouldn’t just take that.”

“No,” Vivienne hissed. “No. No…”

“They took her DNA,” London finished. “They took our daughter’s goddamn DNA.”

Colt lifted his head and closed his eyes. An unmerciful keening sound ripped from his throat to pierce the air. Helene jumped and slapped her hands over her ears, as did the doctors, and I followed, muffling the brutal sound.

But Vivienne didn’t, nor did Carven or London.

They stood there, staring at the bloody mess on Vivienne’s white shirt. Their breaths deepened as though they were about to destroy the world. I had no doubt they would.
