“The Order will do that to you.”

An ache filled my chest, moving upwards into the back of my throat. I nodded. “Exactly.”

“So that’s it,” Riven answered as if it was a matter of fact. “We’ll take care of it.”

He glanced at Kane and Thomas and both nodded.

“I’ll have the doctor booked the day after this is all over,” He said.

“Doctor?” I murmured.

“For the vasectomies,” He answered. “Unless…unless you’re not ready for that kind of commitment?”

I lunged, wrapping my arms around him as a cry ripped free. He hugged me back, standing in the middle of the shower, then gripped my chin and eased my gaze upwards. “I told you before, Trouble. Let us take care of you.”

For the first time in my life, I realized this is what that meant.

This and more.

One nod, then he bent and swept his arm under my knees as he carried me from the bathroom.

“You’re wet,” I said.

“Who gives a shit.” Was his answer.

He laid me gently down on the bed. Hunter headed toward me with two thick towels in his hands. The shower turned off, then they were all there, drying my body, then my hair.

“Stay here with them,” Riven murmured. ”I’ll be back soon.”

He rose, but I pushed up on my elbows. “Where are you going?”

“Not far. Don’t worry.”

But I did worry, even when Hunter tugged his t-shirt over my head and slid a pair of his boxers up my legs, lifting me enough to tug them into place. Kane dried himself, pulled on another pair of boxers, and slid into the bed next to me, letting me curl up in his arms.

“I think my brothers are in love with you,” he said, smoothing down my wet hair as he stared into my eyes. “I think I am too.”

Love was always meant to be out of reach.

My sisters and my father had taught me that.

But this love, this was different.

“You saw me kill a man tonight.” I said carefully. “You’ve seen what I can do.”

“If you think that’s going to scare any of us away, then you’re mistaken. We’ve all done things to protect those we love. We’d do them again in an instant. Love makes a monster of us all.“

Those words hit hard as he lowered his head and kissed me softly. “Now close your eyes and sleep. God knows you need it.”

The bed dipped hard behind me. Hunter climbed in, the warmth of his body pressed against my spine. I was still hurt, vulnerable, and afraid. But I wasn’t afraid of them. I finally had what I’d always wanted. I closed my eyes and let that heavy wave carry me down. The bed dipped again later, rousing me enough to crack open my eyes.

“I’m here, Trouble,” Riven said, pressing against me.

I looked for Hunter, but he was gone. The brush of Riven’s curled fingers grazed my arm, lulling me back to sleep once more.

I didn’t dream, not of darkness or death or even my sisters. Instead, I floated, carried by a murky gray river that lapped my arms and brushed down the back of my hands to my fingers.

“Let me love you.” Riven’s words filled my ears.
