Riven rolled me over to my back, cradling me as he pulled out. “I guess that’s settled.”

“What’s settled?” Kane asked as he stepped into the room, towel drying- his hair.

“We’re living here from now on…until we find a place where we can all be together,” Riven murmured.

“Oh, suits me.” Kane moved to the side of the bed behind Hunter. “If that’s what you want?”

I nodded as my belly unleashed a low snarl. “It is.”

“Good, then we’re going to need more food.” Riven pulled the condom free as he climbed from the bed. “Because I’m goddamn starving. I’ll have my housekeeper go to the market and bring it out here.”

Hunter just shook his head with a smirk. “It’s started already. First with the food, next it’ll be a housekeeper and a goddamn chef.”

“Now that sounds wonderful.” Riven disappeared into the bathroom. “And we’re going to need a lot of those.” He nodded to the open box of condoms on the dresser, then glanced at me spread out on the bed. “A lot more.”

I gave a chuckle, watching him pull on Hunter’s boxers that were far too big for him. This wasn’t happiness, not yet. But it could be, right? Riven gave Hunter a shoulder bump as he headed out of the room.

Yeah.

It could be.

We passed the day in playful surrender. All of us, including Thomas, laughed as we ate. Riven made a list for his housekeeper, paying her a nice extra sum to deliver it all the way out to where we had hidden ourselves away. Ten bags of groceries later and four bags of clothes and necessities, the refrigerator was full of vegetables, fruit, vegan cheeses, and freshly baked bread that smelled heavenly.

“The living arrangements are one thing, but vegan?” Hunter muttered as he watched me smear another slice of sourdough bread with vegan butter and a drizzle of syrup before biting down.

“Eat all the meat you want.” I gave a shrug. “Seriously, nothing bothers me anymore. Just don’t expect me to eat it.”

“It’s fine.” Thomas reached over, grabbed a slice of bread, and helped himself to my butter. “I’ve been thinking of making a change myself.”

Really?

I stared at him, watching him take a bite and give a shrug. “It’s not too bad. I could get with this.”

I grinned at him. We ate, we laughed. Even Thomas unleashed a deep chortle when Hunter tasted my vegan butter and chomped down on a carrot, finally shaking his head and muttering, “No goddamn way.”

But then in an instant, mid-laughter, everything changed, like a bubble had burst somewhere. One that seemed to have insulated us from everything we’d endured. In the quiet, a dark ominous feeling rose over us like a heavy thunderous cloud, ready to unleash a storm.

I heard the rumble.

I smelled the ozone.

But I couldn’t seem to outrun it, or wait for it to pass. It haunted us. “We have to stop them.” I stared at the kitchen counter. “Whatever it takes.”

“I agree,” Riven answered. “But until we get more information as to where they are, our hands are tied.”

“So we gnaw them off.”

We all looked at Kane.

“We gnaw them off and we survive.” He added. “Any way we can.”

“How do you suggest we do that?” I shook my head. “We know what they want, they want me and my sisters. Are you saying we give up on one or all of us?”

I hoped to God he wasn’t, because there was no way in hell I was letting them anywhere near Hale or his New Order. We were back to square one. I closed my eyes, remembering the sound of Coulter’s face breaking under the force of my blows. Maybe not all the way back to square one. But we were missing a key piece of information. One that’d lead us to the end of this hell once and for all.

“That doesn’t necessarily mean your sisters,” Kane began.

I jerked my gaze to his. “It could be another of your bloodline,” he explained.
