I knew who he meant.

My former father.

I shook my head.

“He has a lot to answer for,” Riven snarled. “But I’ll say this, there is nothing he could say that’d stop me putting a bullet in his head. Not now. Not ever.”

I flinched at the ruthless tone.

But he was right.

In my head, I saw that look on his face when they’d pulled me into that auction. It was almost as though he’d expected it.

“He’s not my father.” The moment I said the words, I knew they were true.

“Just as Melody is not our sister,” Hunter added. “Not anymore.”

“The map,” Thomas said suddenly.

We all looked at him.

“What map?” Riven asked.

“The one from the study.” Thomas looked at Kane. “The one we threw out the window.”

“You mean the one you risked our damn necks to grab?” He sounded pissed.

I realized there was so much more to last night than I knew. Maybe one day they’d tell me…but not anytime soon. Right now, I wanted this to be over, and to forget The Order or The New Order, or whatever they called themselves ever existed.

“The map is important. I know it is. There was a symbol on it. One I’m sure I’ve seen before.”

I looked at Riven, watching as his scowl deepened. “Then we go and find it.”

My breath caught in my chest. The last thing I wanted was to go back there. But it looked like we didn’t have a choice. “It could lead us to Hale.”

“It could,” Riven answered.

A shiver of determination tore through me. “It could be the end of everything.”

He turned, his eyes sparkling. “Yes.”

“Then I’ll get dressed and let’s get this over with.”

I left them behind and made my way up the stairs back to Hunter’s room, finding the bags of clothes Riven had his housekeeper bring us. Jeans, a black t-shirt, boots, and a jacket later, I walked back down, to find them ready.

“We go together.” Hunter grabbed the keys to his Hummer.

That pang in my chest grew bolder. “Always together.”

We headed out and climbed into the four-wheel drive with Hunter behind the wheel. My thoughts returned to Ryth and Vivienne. I hadn’t heard from Tobias or London. I was guessing that meant there was no news. At least not bad news.

The closer we came to the city and the shrouded streets where billionaires like Coulter lived, the tighter my grip became on the door handle.

We passed a police car, no doubt patrolling the neighbourhood.

“We hide in the forest. Thomas, you scout ahead and find out if we can get through.”

“If I’m found, I’ll say I’m part of his church. Sick motherfuckers like Coulter like to hide behind religion.”
