There’d been a massacre at The Order…again.

Cold washed through me.

Only, they’d never reported on the other murders …why would they? They’d been only Daughters, after all.

They’ll all think I’m dead.

My stomach clenched, but I thought about that for a moment. No Order. No Hale. No bloodshed. Just disappear, just like that. Viv and Ryth’s faces rose, full of anger and desperation, making me wince. Could I do that? Just drop out and leave them to fight the battle on their own?

Could I see them on the news being loaded into body bags and know I could’ve done something to protect them? My pulse boomed and a savage, agonizing ache filled my chest as I looked away from the cell.

No.

I couldn’t.

Not now.

Not ever.

They were more than faded images I’d pinned to my wall.

They were my sisters…they were my blood.

My fingers shook as I turned back and punched in Vivienne’s cell number. It rang and rang and rang. I waited, hope fading, but then it was answered.

“Yes?”

“Viv. It’s me.”

“Hell, is that you?”

Hell? The corner of my lips twitched with the nickname. “It’s me.”

“Thank fuck you’re alive,” she moaned. “It’s all over the news.”

“I saw,” I said.

“What the fuck happened?”

I closed my eyes. What happened? What happened? I tried to put it into words but I couldn’t. What could I say? I’m sorry, Viv, but I’ve kind of fallen in love with the men who tormented and brainwashed you and Ryth. No, more than that…I’ve fucked them. I’ve fucked them so many times and I still want to fuck them.

How fucked up was that?

“So so much.” My words were husky.

But there was no answer, not for a second.

“Viv?”

“It’s London,” the deep snarl came through. “Where the fuck are you?”

I wrenched my eyes open. Cold plunged all the way down through me. I tried to speak, but I couldn’t. Had the bastard been waiting just to ambush me?

“I’m sorry.” I caught her murmur in the background.

My cheeks burned hotter the longer I sat there…but I couldn’t speak.

Instead, I stared into those dark, unflinching eyes as the mountain stood in front of me. I hadn’t even heard him enter. Not. One. Damn. Sound. I should have—I lifted my gaze—especially for a man his size.
