“I think it’s time you explain yourself,” London demanded. “Before your blood is spilled all over this nice driveway.”

“It’s not what you think!” I choked out.

“Oh yeah?” Shadows spilled across his face as London stepped closer. “I think it’s exactly what I think.”

He didn’t turn his head.

Didn’t look at Helene, nor did he look at anyone else. Just lifted that gun and took aim. “There is nothing you can say that will spare this monster’s life…his or his brothers’.”

Once again, I was here.

Looking death in its righteous face.

The last time, I’d felt empty. Hollow. Alone.

I wasn’t alone now.

No…now I had her.

I gave the bastard a slow nod.

Ready.

I’m ready.

“Last words?” St. James murmured, those dark eyes glinting as they fixed on mine.

“I love him.”

I stiffened, then slowly turned my head…

As did everyone.

Helene just stood there, her spine straight, her beautiful face a mess of cuts and bruises as she stared at London and everyone and repeated the words I’d take to my goddamn grave. “I. Love. Him.”

Helene

“Noooo.” Vivienne unleashed a wounded sound, taking a slow, wobbly step toward me. “You did not just say what I thought you said.”

Anger. Heartache.

I saw it all in the faces of my family.

Every. Single. One. Of. Them.

The family I’d so desperately wanted.

And suffered to protect.

Now looked at me with revulsion.

“What the fuck did you just say?” London swung that glare my way.

I wanted to cringe at the bite of his tone. Even hearing the words myself sounded so fucking absurd. No, not absurd. There wasn’t a word for this betrayal. Not at the hands of the same men who’d tortured and brainwashed both my sisters. There was no amount of explaining how something so fucked up like this could happen.

But it had happened.
