“Okay,” he gave in. “Deal, but after we’ve done this tonight. I need your head in the game.” His voice softened as he brushed his curled fingers along my cheek.

There was no stray hair for him to dislodge, he just liked to touch me. But as always, that desperation turned into something more carnal. He drew in a breath and licked his lips. “We have time, Trouble.”

I gave a smile. “Sure, let’s just fuck in front of everyone, shall we?”

He scowled, lifting his gaze. It was as though he’d forgotten we had an audience, or maybe it was that he was used to just not caring.

“When this is all over…” he warned, turning that wicked stare my way.

When this is all over…

What then?

I wasn’t sure. But the one thing I did know was that Riven, Kane, and Thomas would be in my world one way or another.

“They’re going to talk to the guard,” Kane said from behind Riven.

That drew both our attention. Riven swiveled around in an instant and started walking. “Not without me, they aren’t.”

I followed him, hurrying to catch up as he headed out of the building and toward what looked like a massive workshop. Hunter and his men waited at a huge open door. One glance at his brother and the towering mountain turned and stepped deeper into the dimness.

Goosebumps raced along my arms as they stopped outside a locked door at the end of the space. I waited, listening to the clunk of a lock disengaging before the door was pushed inwards. Low snarls came from the darkness, spitting threats and promises of revenge.

I followed them, lingering in the doorway until finally the lights came on with a click. I winced at the sudden glare as light flooded the room. In the corner a handcuffed man kicked one leg against the floor, trying his best to ward them off as they came toward him.

Riven was frozen, staring down at him. But one glance and I knew it wasn’t out of fear. He wanted blood…he wanted this man’s blood.

I swallowed and turned my attention to the bastard who, just yesterday, had had me by the throat, whispering in my ear all the filthy, terrifying things he was going to do to me. Fear ripped like an icy wave through me. For a second, I was the only one in there. The only one facing that…scumbag. I opened my mouth to speak just as Hunter neared him and slowly dropped to one knee.

His tone was so calm as he started talking. “This is what’s going to happen. In a few hours, we’re going to take you from this room and take you to a room where you’re going to call your contact. You’re going to tell them you were attacked and run off the road. You’re going to explain that the team is okay, as well as the assets, then you’re going to tell them you’re bringing them in.”

“And why the fuck would I do that?” the idiot sneered, his lips curling.

There was a manic gleam in his eyes, one that went with the sickening sweat sheen across his brow. There was blood on his shirt and blood crusted in his nostrils. It didn’t take a genius to know what had happened. The only question was who had done it?

My attacker jerked when his gaze caught Riven. I knew then, knew it was The Principal. Riven stepped closer, making the guard on the floor flinch and jerk a panicked stare toward him. “Get him the fuck away from me.”

So, it was him.

I could only imagine what had happened between them.

There will be blood, Trouble. That I promise.

My pulse sped as those words resounded.

“You don’t need to worry about him,” Hunter murmured, and turned around. The merc with the beard handed him a set of tools wrapped in black canvas. He carefully opened them. “And this is why you’re going to do exactly what I said. Because if you don’t…”

One swipe of his big hand and he unrolled the set. Sharpened steel glinted on a vicious-looking pair of pliers. Those were made for torture.

“Because if you don’t, it won’t be my brother you’ll need to be worried about. It’ll be her.”

Hunter turned to glance over his shoulder, and that steely stare found me. A surge of adrenaline slammed into me. Hard breaths shook me as I turned back to that bastard whose lips started to curl.

“Her?” he smirked.

I forced myself to step forward, even though it was the last thing I wanted to do. “Yes,” I murmured, lowering my gaze to the instruments waiting for me. I moved fast, kneeling to snatch the pliers from their sheath and hold them in front of his face. I searched those sickening eyes, trying to find the monster who’d terrified me so much. All I saw was a weak, pathetic male who liked to terrify others. Now it was time for him to get a little of his own medicine.

“Me,” I whispered, watching his eyes. “I’m going to enjoy exacting my revenge. I think I’ll start with your tongue, so I don’t have to listen to you beg.”
