He gave a chuff, smiling…for a second, until that smile died away.

“You won’t…” he started.

“She will,” Riven answered as he moved closer. “And we’ll fucking help her.”

“So, you will go into that room and you will make the call. Because if you don’t, Helene and my brother here are going to rip you apart, inch…by…inch.”

The asshole turned gray, his panicky gaze shifting from the pliers in my hand to Riven…then finally to Hunter, and he nodded. “Okay. Okay, just whatever you do, don’t let them hurt me.”

“You have my word.” Hunter smiled and clapped his heavy hand on the bastard’s shoulder. “They won’t harm a hair on your head.”

FOURTEEN

Hunter

“Commander.”

I jerked my gaze to Kyrell.

“Have you heard a word I’ve said?”

I scowled, fighting the urge to look her way.

“Yeah.” I pushed off the truck. “I heard you.”

The exterior was fine, the bullet holes patched and painted. I strode along the outside, checking for anything out of the ordinary for the twentieth time. That was the only thing I felt slipping away…time. The last thing I wanted to be doing right now was worrying about all the ways tonight could go to hell.

Beep.

I glanced at my cell.

St. James: We’ll be there in 30.

I winced and pocketed it. “Get the Daughters ready. St. James and the others will be here in thirty.”

“Where will you be?” he asked as I walked away.

“Around.”

I headed for the command center, ignoring the curious stares of my men and the other Daughters we’d rescued from the truck. Disgust rose, the bitter tang rancid on the back of my tongue. I swallowed it down and tried not to meet the Daughters’ confused, desperate stares. If I was any kind of man, I’d set them free, let them run and take their chances out there.

But deep down, I knew they’d never be free. Not really. Not while men like Harmon and Hale existed.

“Commander.” One of my men stepped out of the comms room.

“Not now,” I murmured and kept walking, turning from the living room to the long hallway and the closed bedroom doors.

They were here…somewhere. I slowed, glancing at a closed door and listened. Sobs came from behind the door, faint, muffled sobs. I winced and forced myself to keep walking, heading to where the deep rumble of my brother’s voice could be heard.

A turn of the handle and I stepped inside. He held her as she stood there naked. Anger burned for a second before I glanced at the bed. One of the red lace bodysuits they were forced to wear lay on the edge, glaring, neon.

“Everything okay?”

Riven glared at me as he held her tighter. “Fine.” The word was acid.

I strode closer, bending to snatch the lingerie from the bed. “You’ll never have to wear anything like this again.”

She turned to me, her skin pale, eyes shining with the tears she refused to shed. Christ, she was strong. Riven took a step backwards, then turned. “I’ll be outside. Help her into the suit, brother.”
