Her smile was quick and genuine, fixed on me as though she was a long-lost friend. The only problem was, I had no idea who the fuck she was.

“We’ve been expecting you.” She waved her hand for us to climb out. “All of you. Please, if you’ll follow me.”

“Hunter.” Riven’s warning tone ripped out.

The mountain was there, striding out of the darkness behind me.

There wasn’t a fucking flinch in her eyes. Not even as Hunter lowered himself out of the back of the truck and towered over her. “Who the fuck are you?”

That smile never wavered as she met his stare. “Who is of no importance. What’s really important is family.” Her focus shifted to the back of the truck once more.

I knew who she looked at, even without turning my head.

“No,” I stepped closer. “You don’t get to look at her.”

“Don’t you agree, Riven?” She swung that ravenous stare back to him. “Family. Just like your sister.”

Riven lunged, grabbing her around the throat. “What the fuck did you just stay to me? You don’t fucking know my sister, do you hear me? You. Don’t. Know. Her.”

Her eyes sparkled. “Don’t I? If you want to see her, then I suggest you get our precious cargo out of that filthy truck and follow me.”

Riven said nothing, not even as she tore away from his grasp. He just let her go with a look of pure astonishment.

“You’re fucking lying,” he growled. “That’s all you people do is lie.”

“Am I?” She grinned and lifted her cell. Her gaze went to the screen.

It felt like my heart stuttered and broke as I waited. But before the life squeezed out of me, she raised her hand and the cell to him.

I couldn’t see it.

I took a step forward.

Still…I couldn’t see.

Riven wrenched a sickened stare at her. “Who the fuck is that?”

Her grin only grew wider as she took a step forward. “Look closer, Principal. Don’t you recognise your own kin?”

He swayed and his face turned ashen. For a second, I thought he was going to faint.

“Hunter,” Riven croaked. “Do whatever she says.”

Kyrell stepped around the back of the truck, but he kept on walking past Riven to stop at her side.

That smile was chilling now. Deep red lips curled tight at the edges as she reached out and gently placed a hand on Kyrell’s arm. “Good work, Dane.”

The betraying bastard had the gall to smirk.

“You sonofabitch,” Hunter growled as he lunged down, his boots slamming into the driveway before he rose. “You’re a dead man, Kyrell. Mark my words. You won’t see sunrise.”

Kyrell had the gall to chuckle and shake his head. “Commander, nothing speaks louder than money and these guys, my friend, have a fuckton of it.”

Hunter strode forward, grabbed him by the front of his shirt and yanked him forward until Kyrell faced his glare. “I’m not your Commander and I sure as hell am not your fucking friend.”

One look toward the bitch with all the power and he shoved Kyrell backwards.

“Riven,” I called his name but even he had no plan for this.
