“It’s going to come down on us!” Kane bellowed.

“Help us!” A faint roar reached us. “Someone fucking help us!”

I jerked my gaze to Riven. He heard it this time. That was for sure. Even as the ground underneath us trembled again, all four of us surged forward.

“We’re here!” Riven yelled.

“Here!” The sound came from somewhere in the distance. We threw up our hands, covering our eyes as the stony ceiling cracked and crumbled, fine fragments falling all around us. “Can you hear us!” Riven surged forward.

“Yeah!” The response came.

The closer we got, the clearer the voice.

“Riven!” I shouted over the grumble of the aftershock. “That’s?—”

But he knew exactly who it was and as we ran, a darkened doorway came into view. One with bars across the top.

“Tobias!” I screamed as Riven skidded to a stop in front of the door.

I slammed into him, grabbing hold of the bars and stared into those savage eyes. “It’s us…thank God, we found you.”

“Good…now get us the fuck out of here!” He roared.

But beneath the aggression was something else, something only someone who knew him could see…fear.

“You’re right, baby, look…she’s here. Helene is here.”

Only then did I hear Nick’s low murmur. I looked past Tobias, who filled the doorway, to the feet and legs behind him.

“Ryth?”

I think your sister was hurt. It looked serious. I guess that’s what happens when you shoot at bulletproof glass. I do hope she gets to a doctor soon.

“Show me.” I whispered, staring at her feet. “Show me my sister.”

Slowly, as though it took every ounce of his willpower, Tobias stepped aside.

There was blood on her side. Her face was turned toward me, or maybe it was Nick as he sat beside her. She winced, her brow glistening with sweat.

She was hurt. Cold washed through me…she was really hurt.

“Riven.” I whispered, and grabbed the bars, yanking as hard as I could. “Get them out.” I wrenched my gaze to him. “GET THEM OUT!”

He was frozen for a second, then glanced at the door and the lock. “We can’t…there’s no way we can get in there.”

“She’s fucking BLEEDING!” Tobias roared, grabbing the metal bars and yanking until I thought the corded tendons in his neck would snap.

A cry wrenched free, a sickening, wounded sound as I grasped the bars around his hands and yanked. But the thing wouldn’t budge. It wouldn’t budge.

“GET IT OPEN NOOOWWWW!”

I stopped, seeing the utter panic in Tobias’s eyes.

“Please.” I whispered, holding onto the bars, desperately staring at the bottom half of my sister as she lay on the floor of that cell. “Please, I’ll do anything. I’ll do anything.”

“Then get the hell outta the way.” The command came from somewhere behind us.

I spun around at the same time Riven did, staring into the piercing blue eyes of the Son, Carven.
