I closed my eyes.

Maybe that’s what I needed.

Demon.

“What, baby?” The angel asked. “What did you say?”

The image of Vivienne being dragged from the cell came rushing back to me. I opened my eyes to find Riven being driven backwards until he was slammed against the wall.

“I’ll fucking KILL YOU!” My tormentor roared, that electric shock rod sparking in the gloom.

Helene wrenched her gaze toward them.

Everything moved in slow motion. One minute, Riven was the only one fighting the bastard who’d tried to kill me, then they were all there, rushing forward, attacking with fists and nails. I gathered the last burning need to get out of there alive and pushed upwards.

My arms shook violently, until they collapsed under the weight, sending me crashing back down. Screams were smothered by the roaring rumble of this fucking place crumbling around us.

I tried again, pushing upwards as they attacked the guard, disappearing under a hail of falling rock, until Riven reached out and picked up one of those rocks.

“NO!” The torturing bastard threw up his hand in a desperate attempt to protect his face.

But it was useless. My brother was wrath in that moment, those dark eyes wide as he brought that hunk of stone down with all the strength he had.

Crack!

The sound was sickening.

The guard fell…hitting the floor with a thud.

And the frenzy started. Kane and Thomas kicked and beat. Helene grabbed a rock of her own, unleashing it with chilling violence as she drove that rock into his head over and over. “Fuck you!” She howled. “Fuck youuu!”

Until there was nothing left to kill…

The guard’s face was a bloodied mess. Unrecognizable. Slowly, Riven straightened, sucking in hard breaths before he suddenly lunged, grabbed Helene and hauled her sideways as a bigger chunk of stone fell from the ceiling and crashed to the floor right where she’d stood.

Her eyes were wide, staring at the mess, then she turned to Riven.

“We need to get out of here now!” Riven roared.

Kane and Thomas rushed toward me, dropping to the floor beside me. Kane lifted my cuffed hands, then glanced at the dead guard. “The key…we need the goddamn key.”

He shoved upwards and was gone, hurrying to search the pockets of my tormentor.

“Sis-stt-er.” I croaked, turning my gaze to Helene.

She moved closer.

Still, not close enough.

Agony ripped through my torn shoulder. I swallowed it down, crawling my fingers forward to snatch her hand. She flinched, jerked her gaze to mine, and scowled. I wanted to roar…to scream just like how Vivienne’s voice screamed inside my head, tormenting me.

“Si-st-er.” Fire lashed my dry throat, snatching the word from my lips. Sister…SISTER! My lips stretched wide with the silent scream.

“What is he saying?” Helene wrenched a frantic gaze to Riven, standing behind her.

“He’s saying sister.” Thomas said, staring at him. “That’s what he’s saying.”

“Sister?” She murmured, looking back at me.
