“That fucking bitch.” Riven snapped, turning to step over the rubble. “She did this? Of course she fucking did. Goddamn bitch…goddamn fucking bitch!”

But that wasn’t it…it wasn’t the sister I cared about.

“No…” I pulled her close. “Y-our…sis-ter.”

The color drained from her face. There was a flicker of confusion before she whispered. “Ryth?”

I slowly shook my head.

“Vivienne?”

I nodded.

“Oh, God.” She rocked forward. “That’s what the phone calls were, weren’t they? They have her…they have my sister.”

She shot to her feet, stumbling away until she tripped over a chunk of stone and fell. Thomas was there instantly, catching her, pulling her against him as Kane rushed to me and dropped to his knees.

“We have to get out of here.” He unlocked the cuffs, gently pulled them free off my wrists, and flung them across the cell. “Can you walk?”

I didn’t know if I could, still I nodded. “You help. I’ll try.”

Thomas left Helene, strode forward, and grabbed one of my arms as Kane grabbed the other. My breath caught. My muscles were rock hard, spasmed tight. Still, I used them as best as I could, holding on as I slowly pushed upward.

I couldn’t straighten, not at first. I was doubled over, holding on to both my brothers until I slowly forced myself upright.

“You good?” Kane asked.

My muscles were twitching and my nerves were fried, like every cell had been burned with a goddamn flamethrower. Still, I nodded.

“We need to get out of here.” Riven demanded. “Everything else can wait. First things first, we need to track them down.”

Helene nodded, panic in her eyes. She turned around, scrambling over the debris to race toward the door. I held onto Kane and leaned on Thomas, letting my little brother take my weight.

He was stronger than he looked, wrapping his arm around my middle. “I got you.” He grunted.

We followed, two steps behind Helene and Riven.

Relief hit me as I stepped outside that dank piece of Hell. I sucked in the musty cold air, drawing it deep into my lungs and limped, following them as they hurried along some kind of tunnel. Vibrations kept shaking the place. We sidestepped fallen chunks of ceiling.

The place rumbled, quaking until Thomas stumbled to the wall and pulled me with him.

“The whole place is coming down!” He roared.

“We need to keep going!” Riven stabbed toward the darkness up ahead. “That’s our way out!”

He grabbed Helene and surged forward. But he only took two steps before he stopped.

Flashlights cut through the darkness up ahead.

Two…three…then four beams cut through the gloom, heading our way.

“Here.” Kane barked over the roar of the damn crumbling tunnel as he pointed to another dark open doorway. “Hurry!”

The last thing I wanted to do was step inside that room.

But Thomas was there, pulling me with him and back into a cell.
