He didn’t like it. In fact, he looked like I’d just asked him to swallow a mouthful of broken glass.

It may as well have been like that for him.

His entire existence had been in the pursuit of finding where Hale had kept his sister and now…now that was over in the cruelest and most brutal way. Only, I couldn’t let it be like that for my kin…no matter how enticing it was.

Riven slowly gave a nod. “You’re right.” He glanced at his brothers as though he was reminding himself the true reason for all this. “We’ll get you out.”

He waited for a heartbeat, then gently opened the cell door and peeked out, making sure the coast was clear before we all stepped out. I stayed right behind him, followed by Kane and Hunter. It wasn’t until we were hurrying back along the tunnel that I felt the…wrongness.

I stopped and turned, finding Thomas gone. “Riven.” I called, my voice rebounding in the space.

He spun around, then moved toward me, scanning the others. “Where the fuck is Thomas?”

Kane looked behind them. Hunter was slower, scanning the emptiness.

“Fuck.” The Mountain snarled, limping as he took a step. “You go, I’ll find him.”

But I knew exactly where he was heading. “No. No, you can’t.”

“Go.” Riven threw over his shoulder as he headed after Hunter. “Get out of here. I’ll find you later.”

Agony tore across my chest watching them disappear into the gloom. Thomas thought he could save us and destroy The Order. I knew it.

“Come on.” Kane gently gripped my arm, pulling me forward as he took a step.

But I just couldn’t go.

I couldn’t leave them…not again.

“I can’t.” I pulled away from him. “I can’t leave them behind.”

“Goddamn him.” Kane muttered.

We both turned around at the same time and hurried after them. We caught up to Hunter first, then Riven. A careful glance my way, and The Mountain nodded.

Flashlights bounced around the tunnel up ahead, then suddenly disappeared. My heart was in my mouth as I hurried, following them to the same spot. It was another tunnel…one that led to God knew where.

I shook my head. “We don’t know what’s in there…”

All I could see was one way in and no way out.

“He’s my brother.” Riven murmured. “I have no choice.”

And in a single second, he was gone, slipping into the darkness.

I clenched my fists to my chest as anguish filled me.

Goddamn them. Hunter followed. Kane shook his head, that same desperation glinting in his eyes before he followed them in. I waited for a whole second, then took a blind leap of faith and followed. There was absolutely nothing. I reached out, found the wall, and forced myself to keep going.

But the tunnel took an abrupt turn to the right, and at the end, a light spilled out of a cracked open door, lighting the way forward. Thomas was there, standing at the open door, watching them inside before he turned his head to find the rest of us.

No.

I shook my head as Riven grabbed him silently by the shoulders and yanked him backwards, to stare into his eyes.

But Thomas just shook his head and looked at that room. The room where light spilled out and the muffled sounds of voices came. Riven dropped his hands, and pushed his brother behind him. As hurt as The Mountain was, his fist was clenched and ready. Kane reached behind himself, keeping me at his back as Riven slowly inched the door inward and stepped inside.

The light was glaring, causing me to blink as I stepped inside. Guards were busy pulling servers apart, taking the CPU’s. That’s all they wanted. They were so focused on that they didn’t hear us, not until it was too late.
