“Ava, does it give you…bad memories when I send you shit like that? I know I’ve been doing it all week, but that was before you told me about that stalker asshole you used to date.”

Ava’s eyes widened, and her expression softened in a way that made my chest swell and my palms sweat at the same time. I’d done something to her…emotionally by asking her that. It was fucking me up to see her looking at me with that expression.

She put her hand on my arm. “God, Jack, no. It doesn’t trigger me at all. Please, send me all the dirty texts you want,” she replied with a flirtatious grin.

That sick feeling was starting to dissipate, replaced by something distinctly more carnal, but I needed to be certain. “You sure?”

That soft expression crept over her face again. “Yes, definitely. Wouldn’t it be unfair if he took that away from me? From us?”

Us? Oh, shit, I needed to get some space. I felt like I was going to hyperventilate, or something.

“Great, cool. I just wanted to be sure.”

Ava gave me a strange look, but only nodded her head.

I was hoping the sex would finally get her out of my system once and for all, but my greatest fear was now becoming that it would make everything much, much worse.

Chapter 13

Ava

Jack acted very weird all morning, but by the time we got to chemistry, he seemed to settle down. In fact, he was already in his seat when I got to class and sent me a non-stop barrage of texts the moment I sat down.

Jack: Please keep wiggling your ass in your seat.

Jack: Tell Jankowski to stop trying to look down your shirt.

Jack: Every time you suck that pen, I keep imagining it’s my cock.

At his last text, I sent him an exasperated look and the girl to my right, Addison, sent me a glare of irritation. She was a pretty girl with long, dark hair and greyish blue eyes, but she had a perpetually sour expression.

Ava: You better cut it out—the girl next to me is about to narc.

Jack: She’s jealous.

I snickered but turned it into a cough to cover it up. I still got a glare from Addison.

Ava: I don’t think so. Anyway, you’re wasting all your best material. Save some for tonight.

Jack: Oh, Ava. You think this is my best material? So innocent.

I grinned back at him.

Ava: Behave or you’ll get me kicked out of class.

“So, you’re fucking Jack?” a voice whispered.

My head swung to my right, surprised to hear sound coming out of Addison’s eternally frowning face. Not that I blame her; hearing my phone go off every two seconds had to be annoying.

“What?”

She gestured her head toward my cell that had Jack’s name showing on the display, indicating he had texted me again. “He’s texting you, so he must either be sleeping with you or wants to sleep with you.”

Deeply uncomfortable with the direction of our conversation, I shrugged. “We’re just friends.”

She snorted with derision and looked at me with a fair amount of hostility. “Jack doesn’t have female friends. He has fuck buddies.”
