I turn my head to look in the direction he’s looking, but all I see is the backside of three men. And two small groups with a woman the center of attention in each of them.

“Which one is she?” I lean in and whisper.

“Those pricks moved in front of her. We need to talk to her. I can’t leave here tonight without her number.” I can see the determination in his steely gaze. He wants her, which suddenly makes her attractive to me and I haven’t even seen her yet.

Donovan Candlish is a beast in pulling women in. Between his good looks, his muscular body, wealth, and his accent, he’s the equivalent of honey to bees for women.

He’s had fucking women who look like Victoria’s Secret models throwing themselves at his feet. I don’t doubt if he were to ask them to lick the shit off the bottom of his feet, they would just for the bragging rights.

“Fuck, what are we standing here for then? Let’s head over there. I’m anxious to meet this woman.” Just as I take a step in that direction, one of the men steps to the side and I’m hit with the most beautiful sight.

It’s her.

She’s here.

I have a chance to fucking be with her. Then another thought slams into me like a MACK truck—this is the woman Donovan’s salivating over.

Shit!

“Um, Houston, we have a problem,” I mumble.

“What?”

“That woman, the one you want?” I give a subtle gesture in her direction.

“Yeah, what about her?”

“She’s the woman I’ve been crazy about since the day she saved me from that fire.”

His gaze flicks back and forth between her and me, his eyes wide. He takes a couple of deep breaths and I get nervous. Is shit about to hit the fan?

“Okay, so she’s the woman who saved you. The one you burned heaven and earth to find out who she was. How long did it take you about six or seven months? But then you were too chickenshit to talk to her because you found out she was seeing someone else. And as fate would have it, she’s the one I want after that chance encounter at the grocery store.”

I nod, unable to take my eyes off her as she throws her head back in laughter. Will she remember me, or will I just be another nameless face to her?

“Okay, it’s easy. We were going to be sharing whoever’s key we pull tonight. She must be willing at least to be with multiple people at once, and we’re okay with sharing. It wouldn’t be the first time. So the answer is easy. We both give ourselves a good kick in the ass and take action and share her.” Donovan’s words make perfect sense.

“Let’s do it.” I down my remaining scotch and set the empty glass on a table. “We need to talk to her now and give her our number. If not, we risk the chance of not seeing her again.”

“Hold on,” he tells me as he steps away.

Donovan heads back to the bar and leans over it, talking to the bartender, before he hands something to him. A couple of minutes later, he heads back my way.

“What did you do?” I ask, my eyebrow raised.

“Wrote our numbers down so we can slide it to her.”

I knew my best friend was a smart man.

“Let's go save her from the wolves.” I slap him on the shoulder and head her way.

Chapter ten

Alexis

Forty minutes earlier

I stand outside the dark building long after my taxi leaves. The man at the door watches me like a hawk as I nervously pace back and forth in front of him.
