“Unfortunately, yes,” I mumble into his chest.

“He’s insane. Hi, I’m Taira, the true best friend, not to be confused with the previous wanna-be friend. Now that you have my girl, I have a serious question,” Taira states, boldly introducing herself.

I turn in Dimitri’s arms but don’t leave the warmth he’s offering.

“Why don’t we take this inside while we wait for the police?” Donovan steps up beside me, gesturing inside.

“Oh, they’re not coming. I may have lied about that part.” Taira laughs as she turns and basically skips into the living room, taking a seat on the chair that’s kitty corner to the couch.

“I like her,” Dimitri whispers as we head inside. Donovan shuts the door behind him and the three of us take a seat on the couch, me conveniently in the middle.

“Alright, what’s this serious question you have? I’m Donovan, by the way.” Fuck, now I feel bad for not introducing them.

“You have any hot friends? Dads? I like my men to be the salt-and-pepper variety. I just need there to be at least two, but four or more would be great, and they need to be able to pick me up and toss me over their shoulder like I’m a bag of sugar.”

All of us burst out in laughter.

“I’m serious. I need a sugar daddy.”

“So, that must have been the ex. Is he hassling you like that on a regular basis or was today the first he’s disgraced you with his presence?” Donovan takes hold of my hand, giving a firm, but gentle, squeeze.

“It’s not the first time. But I thought I was free of him the last time he came by. He has this silly notion that I’m going to forgive and come running back to him.”

“From what I saw, he’s not going to let you go easily. In his mind, you’re property and you belong to him. You need to go get a restraining order. It’ll protect you and keep him away. If he violates it, then he can be arrested,” Dimitri explains, and while I hear what he’s saying, it’s still hard to believe Lionel would truly hurt me.

“That’s what I told her. I’m glad you have my back. Our girl really upgraded from the last guy with the two of you. There’s just one problem.”

We all glance at her, and she smirks with a mischievous glint in her eyes.

“You haven’t answered my question. Are there any hot men for me?”

“Well, my dad’s a dickhead, so I dinnae want to poison you with him. Plus, he’s married, not that it would matter to him,” Donovan speaks, and my heart breaks that he isn’t close with his father.

“Mine is married as well, but I do have a big family. I’ll see what I can do for you.” Dimitri winks and we all laugh.

“Okay, then work on that for me and I’m going to get out of here so that the three of you can enjoy your night. Call me tomorrow, Alex.” She stands up and walks over, leaning down to hug me before heading to the door, and waving goodbye.

We sit there quietly until the door shuts.

“She seems like a good friend who has your best interest at heart. But I’m worried about you. That man is unhinged. He has his eyes on you and sees you as a prize.” Dimitri’s words put an end to the silence.

I hate to admit it, but they’re right. Why would he even reschedule our wedding? I called it off, and canceled all the plans, so why would he think we’re still getting married? Why would his family think that?

My eyes drop to my arm, and the red marks left by him. A perfect print of his hand.

“Okay, I’ll go in the morning. Can the two of you go with me? Please?”

I keep my eyes down, nervous to look at them.

“Of course we will, but we’re not leaving you here alone tonight. So either one or both of us are staying, or you’re going home with us. I don’t like the idea of him being able to come back here until we have that order in place.” Dimitri’s words bring comfort and make me feel safe.

“Okay. Can you stay here? My bed isn’t huge, but I think we can all fit,” I say softly.

“Then it looks like we need tae get you a new bed.” Donovan winks.

“Maybe.” God, I can’t believe this is my life now, all because of a key party.
