Brad frowned. “No, I just figured you’d be fine on your own? Or down at Frank’s? I don’t know where you spend your nights.”

Shea shrugged. “Just seems awfully mean of you to have a sleepover and not invite me.”

“It’s not a sleepover,” Brad argued.

“Ooh, a sleepover!” Britt squealed. “I haven’t been on one in ages. I’m going to do everyone’s hair!”

Jaxon chuckled as his arm slipped down from Teagan’s shoulders to rest around her waist. His fingers tapped lightly, and she leaned into him. She couldn’t remember ever having been trained to do that, but here she was all the same.

“It’s not a sleepover,” Brad insisted.

“A sleepovercouldbe fun?” Teagan began. “I mean… we’ve all kind of been stressed. Maybe a fun night is what we need.”

“It’s not a-” Shea drowned Brad out.

“So, am I invited?” she asked, holding Teagan’s appetizer platter and bouncing on her toes enough to drag Teagan away from Jaxon to reach out and take it, returning it to the sink so Shea wouldn’t try to load it into the dishwasher again.

“Yes, I’ll invite you,” Dave said.

“Brilliant, I’m going to text Frank.”

“Frank’s coming too?” Brad groaned. “Shea, come on now.”

“I don’t think we’ve done sleepovers since we were twelve,” Jaxon mused aloud.

“We haven’t,” Dave agreed. “Not since that time that we all snuck out with a bottle of brandy that Cassandra keeps under the kitchen sink and got as far as the end of the driveway before we chickened out and ran back.”

Jaxon chuckled. “I remember that. You and I were taking swigs from that bottle and Brad was-”

“I was not crying,” Brad said.

“Never said you were,” Jaxon assured him, while failing to hide his grin.

“I think hewas… just a bit,” Dave said.

“I was out of breath!” Brad argued.

“Spontaneous asthma isn’t a thing,” Jaxon laughed.

“Is that what happened to Mom’s brandy?” Teagan gasped. “She was so sure Dave took it.”

“Not true, Brad did,” Dave said, snorting. “But then Jaxon and I drank it, so half correct.”

Teagan stole a glance at Shea, who looked as if she’d like to either scream or burst into screaming fits of laughter, but she did neither in case there were more details. There weren’t, but it was very polite of her, Teagan thought.

“Fine, so are we going then?” Brad said, glancing between them. “Go get whatever you’re bringing and meet us there in an hour?”

“If we’re late, will you lock us out?” Jaxon asked, clearly joking.

“I might do, so get your asses over there as soon as possible,” he groused.

“I’ll finish up this pot if that’s alright,” Dave said, turning back to the sink.

Shea had finished loading the dishwasher, including the appetizer tray, and before Teagan could protest, she’d added the detergent and started the cycle. “I got to run back to mine and grab some stuff. See you soon!”

She was out the door and Jaxon was dragging Teagan back to the bedroom before she could so much as take a step towards the dishwasher.

“You think I don’t know what you were obsessing over?” Jaxon chuckled in her ear. “She did a fine job. Now let’s go find some pajamas for you, shall we?”
