“I wasn’t talking aboutthat,” Jaxon assured her.

“Really? I was.” she waggled her eyebrows, and he chuckled.

“Insatiable, you are.”

She hummed and clutched the blankets to her front. “Seems that way.”

She stole a glance at him, only to see him smiling as he watched the road in front of them. It was dark in the truck, but when they passed under the street lamps, she could see a certain pinkness in his cheeks that was not due to the cold.

Not entirely, anyway.

“Good to know,” he finally said, a few beats too late to be breezy.

“I love you, Jaxon,” she replied, not taking her eyes off his face as he shifted in his seat.

“Love you too.”

“Does that make you uncomfortable?” she asked, earning a look from his side of the cab.

“Fuck no,” he replied. “I’m just not used to hearing it.”

“Well, I suggest you get used to it,” she countered.

“That’s entirely up to you, Red.”

She grinned and looked back out the front windshield, watching the white line on the road slip by unbreaking until he put on his turn signal and they turned down Brad’s street.

Shea’s car was already there. As was Britt’s. Brad’s and Dave’s were parked on the street, and that’s where Jaxon parked as well, turning to grab the stack of blankets while Teagan got the rest of them plus the bag.

He pushed the doorbell, and they waited until Dave came to the door.

“Oh, you’ve got your hands full,” he said, reaching out for the smaller stack of blankets that Teagan was holding and not helping Jaxon at all.

“Yeah, Shea told us to bring them. For the blanket fort.”

Brad sighed from his place on the sofa. “You are not building a blanket fort, Shea,” he called. “People have to walk through the living room. It’s going to create a problem.”

“I’m not building it down there, genius,” Shea called from what sounded like upstairs. “I’m building it up here.”

“No,” Brad called once more.

“Dave said I could.”

Dave, who shrugged when Brad rounded on him, and who didn’t bring it up again as he took the blankets upstairs.

“Dave!” Brad called. “Come on, man? A united front?”

“I live here too,” Dave replied. “I’d like a blanket fort.”

Brad, who looked very much the overworked single mother at the moment, shook his head and let it fall back on the back of the sofa. “Fine. I just don’t want to see it.”

“Easily accomplished,” Shea called. “You’re not allowed inside.”

“Teagan!” Brittany called from the kitchen doorway, running forward and hugging Teagan as if they hadn’t seen each other just hours before. “You’re here! And you brought blankets! I’m so excited!”

“I also brought rum,“ Teagan replied, pulling the bottle out of her bag and placing it on Brad’s kitchen table.

Jaxon went upstairs with the blankets already, so Britt tugged Teagan towards the stairs as well. Dave had come back and was now taking a seat at the bottom, pulling out his phone. He looked very much like he’d chosen his watch for the night. He turned and said something that she couldn’t quite hear because it was directed at Brad.
