“Fine.”I huffed, as I got into position once more, bending my knees and tucking my ass super low to the ground.

I rallied my strength, but my muscles wouldn’t budge. They strained against the heaviness of the weight. That was, they strained until I reached for my magic When the surge went through me, bolstering my body, I was suddenly able to lift the bar above my head.

Not so easy that time. But I’d done it, and I hadn’t pulled or torn a single muscle.

Sweat dripped down my face, and when I dropped the bar, it was to the sound of George clapping.

I was panting as I turned to him.

“How the hell did you do that?”he asked, his eyes wide.“Even with your magic, I didn’t think you could do something like that.”

I laughed and panted, and laughed some more, and finally, I shook my head.“It’s the wish.It has to be.”Part of me couldn’t believe it, but I’d also long ago realized that magic and love could do truly amazing things.

Thank you, Harry, I silently whispered.I wish you were here to enjoy this with me.

George crossed his big meaty arms over his chest, suspicion etched on his face.“The wish? What do you mean?”

I needed to tell someone I trusted as the secret was beginning to weigh heavily on me.So, I explained to George about what had happened with Harry, and what I’d wished as a teen. Then about the necklace I’d made, and the magic currently simmering in my veins.Power I’d never experienced before.

When I was done, George’s eyes were comically wide, and his arms had dropped to his sides.“You mean… the more you train, the stronger you’ll be, and the more magic you’ll have?”

I shrugged.“I have no idea how it works. All I know is that I already train hard.I’m pretty strong, not to toot my own horn. But for a woman…”

“You’re top level. We know that, Tania.Magic wishes aside, that’s why we all want to see you compete.”

I waved my hand in a dismissive gesture.“That’s not what I meant. It’s more that I finally feel like my magic is as strong as my body.I’ve never thought that before. In fact, it’s never been the case.”

George frowned.“I don’t understand.”

“I… I think my magic is far stronger than it ever was.I feel more powerful, in every way.”

“Well, do something.”George said, inviting me with a gesture at the room.“Go for it.”

I grinned at him.“You mean, other than lifting what I just did?Okay.”I turned to face the small shop at the side of the gym, the one where we sold protein shakes, powders, and gym equipment like hand weights and yoga mats.I extended my hands out, then flicked my arms down.

All of the shop blinds rolled down at speed, unfurling at a rate of knots.

“Oh, come on.”George scoffed.“Put some effort into it.”

I huffed.Didn’t he realize that a week ago I wouldn’t have been able to do even that?My magic really had been very minimal. But I’d never been one to back down from a challenge, so I threw my practical magic at the area next to me, conjuring up a large table, and a full banquet-style dinner.Meats.Bread.Fruits and bottles of wine.Sparkling glasses and shiny silver cutlery. With a fancy pattern I conjured out of my imagination.

George grunted. He was still pretending not to be impressed, but I could tell he was shaken.“Make some more equipment,” he said, gesturing to the benches and weights around us.

I inhaled sharply. That was a lot of mass.A lot of magic required.

I didn’t stop.I twisted my fingers and spoke an incantation for creating objects inside my mind, putting effort and force into conjuring up dumb-bells the size of my head.

“Wow,” George whispered, reaching down to touch one of the dumb-bells and pick it up.

His biceps bulged as he flexed his arm.“Nice and solid.Wow.Seriously, Tania.I didn’t know you had this sort of magic.”

I conjured up a chair next to the dining table and sat down, panting with exertion.“I didn’t before.I practically failed most of my magical exams at school, George.I’m not powerful at all.I run a gym for a reason.”I gestured to the shop and warehouse space around us.

George magicked up his own chair, larger and stronger than mine for his huge bulk, then collapsed onto it.“Well, you are now.”

I swiveled around so my legs were under the table and I could look straight at my friend and fellow warlock.“I am.And it’s not just me.My wish was to help all witches like me.All the bigger girls.”

“Power lifters?”he clarified.
