LEO

Iglared at my brother, the anger rising in my gut so fast my wolf struggled to process all the emotions. My chest was heavy with tension and my fingers tightened into fists.

“That’s… no.She can’t be.”It didn’t make sense.“We can’t have the same fated mate.”

Mason began to pace up and down the small office, growling like a caged animal.“Well obviously we can.Because whatever you’re feeling, I’ve got it just as bad.I can barely breathe.”He dropped his voice to a whisper.“And my cock has a mind of its own.It wants me to throw her down on the desk and claim her the second she gets her luscious ass back here.”

I growled softly at my brother to tell him exactly what I thought of that idea, but since I knew she’d be back any minute, I tried to lighten the mood a little by grasping onto humor.

“Hey, speaking of her ass.”I waggled my eyebrows.“Isn’t she enough woman for the both of us?”

Mason stared at me, then cracked a reluctant smile.“You think that’s why she’s so big?”

“Why who is so big?”Tania asked, jogging down the stairs with a huge book in her arms.

“Nothing,” I mumbled.“What did you find?”

Tania reached the bottom of the stairs and tugged on her t-shirt as though she was trying to cover her ass.“My dad’s an NFL player.I got his physique. It’s not my fault I’m bigger and stronger than most men.”

I gaped at her.Despite the surface calm of her voice, I could hear the pain behind the words. To my ears, she sounded hurt and defensive.

She placed the magic book on the desk and stared at the front cover as though she’d see the answer to all of life’s questions within the folds of the leather. But it was obvious that she didn’t want to look at me.And I couldn’t have that.

“What are you talking about?”I managed.“You’re fucking beautiful.”

Her head came up so fast, her gaze pinned me in place. She seemed to search my eyes for the truth, with a silent question about why I lied.

I stared back, trying to tell her with my gaze that I wasn’t lying. That I wanted her.And that she was gorgeous.Just as she was.

Big.And strong.And fucking to-die-for beautiful.

She dropped her gaze away first and sat in the chair again, opening her magic book as though I hadn’t spoken.

I glanced over at my brother.Had she just ignored my words?Didn’t she understand what I was saying?

“Tania…”

“Leo.Sit,” she barked, her tone sharp.“Let’s see if I can help you with your parents and the spell.”

Mason and I sat down again, but I couldn’t believe she was ignoring what I’d said.Worst of all, she seemed immune to the feelings of the fated mate bond that had overpowered Mason and me.

I wanted her, so badly.I had since the first moment I’d laid eyes on her.It sounded so contrite and bullshit, but the stories about fated mates were so right.

My friends, my family, my pack… they’d told me since I was young that the moment I saw my mate, I’d know. That the whole world would shift around me, centering my entire focus on the woman made for me.

To have her be a witch was one thing. But to share her with my brother?I wasn’t sure I could do that.

“Okay, so…” Her finger traced over the pages of an ancient book.“It’s quite hard to undo a spell done by another witch or warlock. It’s much better if that magical being lifts the curse themselves. But you two don’t know who cursed your parents, do you?”

She lifted her head and none of the heat I felt, or acknowledgment of us, was there in her dark eyes.

I shook my head.“No.We don’t.”

“Hmmm….”Tania went back to reading and I sat and waited.

Mason’s knee bounced up and down, a sign of his impatience.Tania didn’t seem to notice. She just skimmed over page after page until finally she stopped.“Ah-ha!I think I’ve found something.”
