Page 21 of Fated to Wolves

I forced my stiff limbs out of the truck cabin, then closed the door once more.Back at home, I’d been ready to jump out of my skin to see Tania, but now that we were here, I wasn’t sure what to do.Or say.She didn’t seem to feel the pull of the fated mate link.

I was as sure as I could be that she was mine, and so was my wolf.

Leo was racing ahead, and I forced myself to follow him up to the large building. He opened the front glass door and went inside.

I took a deep breath, afraid of… I didn’t know what.Being rejected by my mate perhaps? But the whole point of the fated mate link was supposedly to make sure that you didn’t miss the person when you finally found them, and they couldn’t ignore you either.

But Tania wasn’t a wolf. What if shecouldignore it?What if she couldn’t feel a fated mate bond like we did?How would we convince her that she was ours?

The glass door closed in front of me as Leo disappeared inside, and panic set in.I refused lose my mate because I was afraid.I’d never backed down from a fight, nor a difficult job.And I certainly wouldn’t walk away from the woman that fate had destined would be mine.

My wolf growled inside my chest as if to confirm those thoughts, and I reached out to push open the door.I wasn’t about to let my brother win my mate out from under my nose, either.

The air-con hit me in the face, cool air sweeping over my skin.Leo was already chatting with the redheaded woman behind the reception desk, and my instincts were tingling like mad.

I glanced around.Where was she?I could feel her nearby.Tania was definitely here.

Leo called out to me.“Mase.Come over and sign up.”

“Sign up?”The words were ringing a bell, but my wolf was way too close to the surface, which meant I couldn’t think properly right now.

“Yeah.Come on.”

I strode over to the desk and saw the sign-up forms on the counter. They brought me a touch back toward my human side.“Oh yeah.Cool.”I signed up to a yearly plan, opened my wallet, and took out enough money for the fee.

The girl behind the desk blinked at me.“You want to pay the whole lot up front? In cash?”

Leo did the same thing, pulling out a chunk of change and placing it down on top of his completed form.“Yeah.We both do.”

We always paid cash, had no credit cards, and only took out loans for the houses we renovated.

The woman took our money, shaking her head, but her smile was huge.

Leo caught my eye, then shrugged. They musn’t get many paying up front here. The woman typed on the computer for a minute, then handed over two passes.“These are temporary for now, if you wanna head in.We close in just under an hour, but I’ll have your permanent cards ready by then.Just grab them on the way out.”

“Thanks,” Leo said, grinning at the woman, before walking through to the main section of the gym.

When I followed him, I stopped short for a moment. The space was huge, so much bigger than it looked from the outside.Mirrors reached from floor to ceiling, and a custom mural was painted on the large wall facing the mirrors.

There was every type of work-out machine you could imagine, but the gym was definitely skewed toward weight lifting and building. There were only a few treadmills tucked away in a corner, but the weights, tires, ropes and bench-pressing areas were vast.

My wolfy instincts tingled and I turned my head to see Tania standing near her office, her head thrown back in a laugh as she chatted with a huge man, looming over her.

He gave her a shove that knocked her sideways. She stumbled and twisted back to glare at him.

I saw red.

Who the fuck was pushing my mate around?

I charged up to the giant and shoved him in the chest, knocking him back against her office window.“What the hell are you doing pushing Tania like that?”

The man’s eyes flared and the purple flash told me he was a supernatural, but not a shifter. This was a warlock.

Tania jumped between us in a flash, her hands out to the huge man and her back to me.“Dad.Stop.It’s fine.”

“Dad?”I repeated, staring at the giant and suddenly seeing the same dark eyes, the same full lips…

Tania twisted around to look at me, her gaze full of anger.“Mason.What are you doing here?”
