She looked away, angry slashes of color in her cheeks.

I glanced at my brother, but he simply shoved me in the side.“Let’s go.I stink. So do you. It’s time for a shower.”

I let my brother move me where I didn’t want to go—outside and away from Tania. She slammed the door shut, then locked it with a click.

I tried to catch her gaze, to show her in my expression I was sorry even though I had no idea what I’d done wrong. She spared me a momentary glare before flicking her long dark hair over her shoulder and sauntering away.

“What the hell went wrong there?”I whispered.

Being able to get my hands on my mate after all this time had gone a hell of a lot better in my head than the real thing.

“Come on.”Leo walked toward the truck.

I shoved my hands into my pockets and straggled after him.My gut was tight and angry, but there was a deep sense of rejection and hurt that I hadn’t experienced before.Probably because none of the women I’d dated in the past had been my mate.

If they’d pulled away from me, or turned me down, I would’ve taken it in my stride. Not today. Not with Tania.

I was gutted.

I jumped in the passenger side, letting Leo drive us home.I still wasn’t sure what went wrong, and although I assumed my brother didn’t either, I asked him anyway.

“Hey.Do you know what the fuck just happened?”

Leo’s chortle ground down on a raw nerve, and I growled softly to let him know.

“Hey, hey, calm down.”

The very last thing you should say to someone when you want them to calm down.

“I was just laughing at the fact that, for the first time ever… you got rejected.”Leo chuckled away like it was the funniest thing ever.

Not for the first time today, I wanted to smash him in the face.“I’ve been knocked back before.”

Leo shook his head.“No, you haven’t.But anyway, don’t stress about that shit.We need to work out why our mate doesn’t like being told that she’s beautiful.”

I twisted around to stare at my brother.“What?”

Leo shrugged.“You told her she was beautiful, and she went from melting wax, to freezing you out.She either doesn’t believe you, or she thinks you’re just buttering her up so she’ll do the spell for us.Either way, we’ve gotta get our parents sorted, and then we can focus on our mate.”

I nodded, staring back at the road.Leo was onto something there.Tania was a larger girl, but in all the right places.Huge ass, strong thighs, big breasts I could lose myself in for days. And I intended to do so in the future.

The problem must be the guys in her past. Those stupid warlocks had probably never given her the attention a goddess like her deserved.

“Hey Leo.How do you feel about sharing a mate with me?”

We pulled into our driveway and Leo shut off the truck’s engine.

He turned blue eyes on me, looking wary.“I don’t like it.Why?”

It was my turn to laugh.“Then why do you seem so cool with it?”

He sighed.“Because the fated mate bond is never wrong. If we’re meant to share a mate, we’re meant to share a mate.I’m not going up against fate or leaving Tania to risk never finding a woman again. She’s perfect for me, and for you.Or so we’ve been told. That’s what the bond means.Maybe she’s the one who needs both of us?I don’t know. And yeah, my wolf gets fucking jealous and edgy, but I could never walk away.”

I couldn’t fault his logic; in fact he made a whole lot of sense.

Leo stared ahead out of the windscreen, then his face lit up.“Hey.They’re here.”

He jumped out of the vehicle and slammed the door shut behind him.
