Leo yawned dramatically, then said.“Time for bed, I think. We’ve got work early in the morning, but we’ll let you know about the spell, as soon as we know.”

Dad growled a little in acknowledgment, then I went and locked the side gate to give our parents a little extra protection.

“We’ll leave the back door unlocked, so if you wanna come in through the night, just come on in.”

Mom opened her eyes and nodded, then settled again.

I went inside, shut the door without locking it, and swiped at the errant tear that had fallen on my cheek.Such a waste…

Leo was true to his word, and by the time I’d lumbered up the stairs he was already snoring in his bedroom, still dressed and passed out on his bed.

I managed a shower, because working out with Jack had made me sweat like I’d never sweated before.

Then it was time for sleep, but I couldn’t stop the dreams that filled my head that night.Dreams of wolves, and magic and kids.Of a future that glowed with a beautiful promise, and yet somehow always seemed just out of reach.

TANIA

Ipoured myself a coffee, still shaking my head to try and chase away the tiredness.I’d had the hottest dreams of my life last night.Sex with Leo.Then Mason. Then both of them.At the same time!It had been… insane. And so not me.

I was shocked that even my subconscious mind would entertain such a thing, but since it was just a stupid fantasy, I decided not to chastise myself.

A healthy imagination was good, and a sex drive was normal and healthy too.It had been forever since my last boyfriend, but still… that was probably why my brain was using my dreams to torture me.

I drank my coffee, enjoying the caffeine hit, then my cell phone buzzed in front of me.It was Mom.

Found the book. Can you come over today and we’ll go over the spell?

I checked the roster and realized that, for once, I hadn’t scheduled myself on.

Sure.Be there in an hour.

After all, what else did I have to do today except figure out how to break a curse on a pair of wolf shifters?

I checked on Mel, who was at the front desk, said hello to some of my regulars, and headed out the door.Mom and Dad’s new place was easy walking distance from mine, so I took my time and strolled over there.

The sun was shining, and it was a beautiful day.The heat warmed my face, and for some reason, I wanted to just enjoybeingtoday. My mind drifted to Harry, and the life that had ended far too early for my dear friend.

Tears burned my eyes and I shook my head.No.Harry had been an awesome friend, and I should be honoring him with happy thoughts, not wallowing in my grief all the time.

I wasn’t sure how easy that would be, since every time I thought about him, all I could focus on was the sadness and waste of his untimely death.

When I reached my parents’ place, I laughed when I saw that most of the house siding had already been pulled off.The poor house looked completely undressed, but I knew it wouldn’t be long before their work began to pay off.My parents were nothing if not determined to succeed at whatever project they started.

I jogged up to the front door and knocked.“It’s open!”Mom’s voice came from inside the house.

I pushed open the door, with no idea what sort of disaster zone I’d be walking into. But I was pleasantly surprised to see that most of the inside sported new drywall, and the staircase had been stripped down ready for staining or painting.

“In here,” Mom called, and I turned to my right, following the voice.

Another laugh bubbled up when I entered the front sitting room.“Couldn’t live in a construction zone too long, Mom?”

The room was completely done—thanks to her magic. There was no way a contractor could have finished the room so quickly or so perfectly. The walls were a rich green, and the furnishings were antique but dressed in spectacular gold and silver embroidered fabrics. It was both grand, and homely, all in one.

“Gotta have one room done completely,” Mom said, looking up from her book.“The rest of the house is still a mess, though.”

The back wall was all bookcases filled to the brim.“This is beautiful, Mom.”
