Strange how priorities could change so rapidly.

I nudged him again.“And besides, if Tania chooses us both, you’ll be seeing me do a lot more than just hold her hand.”

The glare I copped from my brother was epic.Award winning.

It would have cowed a lesser man.

I laughed. And clapped him on the back.“Let’s do this.”I jogged down the stairs and up to the women.“Do you need anything?”

Sue turned to me.“We’re going to do a spell to see if we can simply lift the curse, and if that doesn’t work, we’re going to… Encourage it.”

I nodded, not understanding at all.“So, what should we do?”

Tania smiled at me and glanced over my shoulder at my parents.“Could your mom and dad walk over here and stand in front of us?You and Mason should probably stand on the porch, out of harm’s way.”

I didn’t really like the sound of that.It implied that my parents, as well as Sue and Tania, would be the onesinharm’s way.

But as my parents butted me with their heads and then walked over to Tania, I did as I was told and stayed with my brother on the porch.

Mason was a statue once more, but this time I could tell he was anxious over our parents.

“What did Tania say they were going to do?”he asked.

I frowned at him.“You didn’t hear her?”Our wolf shifter hearing was enhanced well above the normal human range.

Mason grunted.“I did.But it didn’t make sense.”

I chuckled, standing shoulder to shoulder with my brother, my gut tight in a knot.“You know as much as I do, Mase.Let’s watch and pray.”

He nodded and we stared at the pair of witches who’d created a lectern to place the book upon and were beginning to chant.

Tania and Sue were saying the same words, silver light whirling around the wolf versions of my parents.

Then the words stopped, the silver light faded, and Sue heaved a sigh.“The witch is still alive.Unfortunately, we can’t just lift it off.”

Mom and Dad continued to stand in front of the witches, unmoving.

Tania smiled apologetically and walked around our parents, then rushed up to the porch.“We have to use a stronger spell and force the curse to lift.Do you two have any idea why this was done to your parents?”

I glanced at Mason, whose lips turned down.

“We have theories, but no concrete evidence,” I explained.“Mom and Dad liked to run in a part of the woods we were told not to go to.It was said that the area was a witch’s sacred space. But there was a creek, and it was quiet and… Mom always said we were conceived out there next to the creek.”Not a piece of information I often shared with people, but if it was important, then it needed to be said.

Tania nodded, worrying her lip with her teeth.“Let me talk to Mom and we’ll see what we can do next.”

She rushed back to her mother and I took a few steps back and fell into the porch swing. It creaked a complaint, but held fast.

After so much time, and hope, would we fall at the final hurdle?

ChapterThirteen

TANIA

Iwalked back to Mom, confused.I didn’t know of any sacred witch spots in the woods.“Hey Mom.Leo said his parents used to go somewhere in the forest they were told not to.A special place that was sacred for a witch.Any idea where that may be?”

Mom furrowed her brow.“The forest? You mean…” She gasped suddenly.“Oh no.I think I know what they’re talking about, and if I’m right, it means trouble.”

Mom turned to the wolves.“Did you go near the cabin at the base of the hills?”
