“Eat,” she proclaimed, sitting on the couch next to me.“I’ve put some healing magic on both.”

I sighed but reached for the coffee and took a sip.A warmth flooded me that I remembered from my childhood.I laughed and looked up at her.“That’s familiar.”

She shrugged, “So sue me.I didn’t like it when you hurt yourself, even if you did enjoy throwing yourself around like your father.”

I ate one of the pastries, then settled back onto the couch.“I’m still feeling exhausted, but better. Thanks Mom.”

Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears.“I’m so sorry, Tania.”

I sat up, frowning.“Sorry?What for?”

“For pulling back, for failing you.You needed me to help you with that spell, and I…”

I grabbed both of her hands.“Mom.You did not disappoint me.I was actually proud of myself for doing that spell without your help.”

In fact, I was rapt that I’d been able to do the spell alone. It had proven to everyone—myself included—that I was indeed, now wielding powerful magic.

Mom wiped at the tears that had splashed onto her cheeks.“I am immensely proud of you, sweetheart. That spell would have knocked most witches on their asses.”

A laugh bubbled up out of my throat.“Thanks.”Though the fact that I’d passed out was a little concerning.

She patted my leg.“Keep eating. You’ll feel better, the more you have. Then you need a sleep.”

I glanced at the clock. It was after two.“I need to get down to the gym.My shift starts soon.”

Mom stood up and shook her head at me.“No way.I’ll speak to Jaydy downstairs.”

My mom knew Jaydy, of course, as we’d been besties for so long.

I shook my head.“No, she’s been working since six this morning…”

“Tania Joy Masterson.Listen to me.”Mom put her hands on her hips and glared down at me.“I will sort this out.”

I opened my mouth to rebut her, but she said, “Tania, please.I’ve been no use today at all… and… please.Let me do this one thing.”

I didn’t let anyone take over my business.I’d lived and breathed the gym since the day of its inception.I managed it, owned it, worked it almost every day.But looking into my mother’s eyes, I had to push past my fear of letting go of the reins.

After all, if I couldn’t trust my mother, who could I trust?

I let out a loud sigh.“Okay, Mom.”

“You have a nap.”She took backward steps toward the hatch that led back down to the gym. Then she raised her hand and snapped her fingers and I was lying on my bed.

I laughed and yelpedat the same time. Then I called out, “Tracey should be available.Or Anne.Maybe.But Jaydy needs a break.”

“Sleep!”

I lay my head on my pillow and chuckled. There was no arguing with her, and if I was really honest, I felt like utter trash.

I closed my eyes and let myself relax, my mind going straight to Leo and Mason.Such an amazing pair of brothers.Like night and day.Light and dark.Funny and serious.Sexy and cute. But both good people.

Good brothers.Good workers.Good sons.

Good lovers…

“Oh, shut up and go to sleep.”I groaned out my frustration. Those men were not mine, and never would be.

They’d wanted my magic, and they had received it.Their parents were back to being human and they could finally resume the life they’d always wanted.
