She shook her head though she shivered under my growl.“No.I can’t.Too many humans here.”

“Then where can we go?”I whispered again, licking the outer whorl of her delicate ear to indicate exactly what I was going to do when she got us somewhere private.

“My apartment,” she gulped out.“Follow me.”

She twisted out of my arms and walked into the office in which we’d first spoken to her.

I closed the door behind us and watched as she hurried up the spiral staircase and out of view.

My heart was hammering in my chest and a small part of me felt guilty that I was with Tania alone, when Leo would have wanted to be here too.

But I was the one who had offended her by trying to kiss her the other day, and I was the one she seemed to have a problem with.Leo, as he always did, had already charmed Tania.

I needed to fix this. All of it.

“You coming?”she called, and this time she sounded annoyed, no longer breathless.

I raced up the staircase after her, emerging into a small living room at the top of the stairs.“You live here as well?”

She nodded, crossing her arms over her ample chest.“It was easier to be close to work in the early years when I did most of the shifts myself. And it meant I could afford to buy the building when it came up a few years ago.”

I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face, or the pride that came with knowing she worked hard for the money she had.Just like we did.It was an admirable quality.

“What are you smiling at?”she asked, sounding offended.

“Oh, nothing bad,” I explained.“I just like that you earn your living the normal way, rather than just magicking up some gold.”

Tania shrugged.“Witches and warlocks who do that are rarely happy. And I didn’t have the capability before.”

“Before what?”I asked.

Tania heaved a massive sigh, then moved to the small kitchen.“It’s a long story. You want a drink?”

I nodded.“Yeah.Please.”

“Beer?”

Again, I nodded, and took the drink when she offered it.“Thanks.”

Tania grabbed her own beer and marched over to the sofa, crashing down on the pillows and sitting up straight, looking super uncomfortable. The heat that we’d created in the gym was gone, and the only way to get it back was to physically get close to her again.

I didn’t sit on the second sofa.I walked over and sat right next to her.She glanced over at me but didn’t move away.

I twisted so I could look straight at her, nursing the cold beer in one hand.“Tell me why you don’t believe that I want you.”

She rolled her eyes like I was the dumb one.“Look, you don’t have to pretend anymore.I did the spell for you.You got your parents back.I’ll even do another one if you need something else.”

I reached out for her long dark hair, running my hand around the edge of her beautiful, blushing face.

She shivered, her eyes closing. Then she whispered, “This isn’t fair.”

“What isn’t?”I asked.“That I want you?Or that you want me?”

Her eyes snapped open, anger and desire mixing together to create a deep, dark fire.“Mason.Stop it.”

Words were useless.I was never going to be able to explain to her how much I wanted her.She wouldn’t believe me.I’d already tried.

They say actions speak louder than words…
