I couldn’t help but grin at the picture Mason’s words roused. He was bigger, stronger, older and more aggressive than me.He was probably right.James owed me.

Mason headed off, following in Tania’s wake, and I glanced over to where Jack was standing by a bench press.

I lifted my hand to wave at him, and he gestured I should come over.Tania wanted me upstairs, so I jogged over to her dad with a grin on my face.“I think I just pissed off your daughter, Jack.So I better go apologize.”

Jack reached out a hand and I shook it.

“Do what you’ve gotta do,” he said.“Sue and I were hoping to have your family over for dinner soon.Tomorrow night?”

I stared up at him, the light of recognition dawning in my brain.“Oh… yeah.Thank you.I’ll just check with Tania.”

Jack chuckled.“That’s the right answer.”

I couldn’t help but laugh properly now.“Yeah.I guess it is.Hopefully I’ll see you tomorrow then.”

Jack nodded and dropped his arm.“I’d get going.”

He didn’t need to tell me twice.I raced to Tania’s office, shut the door behind me and jogged up the stairs.“Sorry, your dad wanted to talk for a sec.”

Upstairs, Tania was huffing and puffing as she paced the floor.

“What’s going on?”I asked, because Mason didn’t seem to be placating her in any way.

“You two need to stop acting like you own me.You don’t!”She practically shouted the words at me.

My jaw dropped.“Of course, we don’t own you.”

“Then why do you keep strolling in here, declaring to the world that I’m yours.I’m not.”

“But we want you to be,” Mason said from his place behind the sofa.“We couldn’t have made our intentions any clearer.”

“But you don’t even know me!”she cried.“You can’t seriously think you want me.”

I tilted my head. There was something weird going on here.“Tania, we know you’re not a shifter, so you don’t trust the fated mate link the way we do, but we’re in no rush here.Date us for months, years.I know we wanted you to come see that new house, but we didn’t mean to push you.If you’ve decided not to live with us straight away, we’ll understand.”

She gripped the side of her head and groaned.“Stop talking like that. You know nothing about me.You can’t really believe that we’re going to get married and live happily ever after.”

“Why not?”I demanded.“You’re meant for us!We’re meant for you!Why can’t you believe that!”

“Because I don’t trust you!”she cried.“You just want me for my magic, and you don’t realize… you don’t know…”

“No, it’s you that doesn’t know,” Mason said, his voice low and dark.“We worked like slaves for ten years to save enough money to buy our parents’ freedom. We didn’t even know a witch like you existed. We would have happily paid for the magic… finding you was fate.A blessing. Not something for you to question our motives over. That’s insane.”

“I’m insane?”She gaped at him and I groaned.

“He doesn’t mean you’re insane.”Though thinking we seriously wanted her for her magic was a little nuts.“He means we want you.So much.We have since the moment we saw you. What’s it going to take for us to convince you?”

She shrugged, biting her lower lip.“Time.I guess. At the moment everything’s just happened too fast and you think I’m this powerful witch…”

Mason growled this time.“We don’t fucking care if you’re a witch, powerful or not.We love that you got our parents back for us, but even if you hadn’t we would still want you.”

She was shaking her head and crossing her arms over her chest. It was obvious she didn’t believe us.

My heart was banging in my chest, panic over losing our mate beginning to ache beneath my ribs.

I forced myself to stay calm.“Come on, Tania.Talk to us.What else is going through your head?”

She lifted her hands and gripped her head.“You’re shifters, I’m a witch.No-one is going to accept the union. The magics hate shifters, and you guys hate us.Your pack won’t accept me.”
