“Fuck the pack,” Mason growled.

“Well… not literally.”I couldn’t help the smile that lifted my lips, ever the one to lighten the mood.“The only one we wanna fuck, is you, Tania.”

Mason glared at me, but at least Tania smiled a little.“I know what he means, but the pack is your family. They raised you when your parents were gone…”

Mason took a step toward her.“Yeah, and they taught us that the fated mate bond is to be respected. No matter who the woman is.Human.Shifter.Witch.”

I pulled over a kitchen stool and sat upon it, again trying to lighten the mood even though I was as concerned as Mason.“My brother’s right,” I said.“It doesn’t matter what the pack says or what they do.You’re our family now.Whether you accept us or not.”

“What do you mean by that?”She narrowed her eyes at me.

I glanced across at Mase for guidance.I probably shouldn’t have said anything.

“Leo.Answer the question.”

I looked back at Tania, willing to tell her the truth about how vulnerable we were in this regard.“If you decide you don’t want us, Tania, then… that’s your choice.”

“Why do I hear a but coming next?”

I shrugged.“I don’t know.”

It was her turn to move closer.“What happens if I decide to marry someone else?”

The groan of pain that came from Mase’s throat made the hairs on my neck stand on end.I tried not to flinch, but Tania didn’t miss a thing.

“Tell me, Leo,” she demanded.

I sighed.“Then we… just… live without you.”Though living wasn’t the right word.If she rejected us there would be no other mate.No wife.No children.

Tania’s eyes shimmered with tears.“So you really have no choice, do you? It’s me… or noone?”

How did she always manage to twist everything into something bad and wrong?

“Of course, we have a choice!”Mason said.“And we want you.Please.Tania.”

“Just go,” she whispered as she turned around and staggered in the direction of her bedroom.“Please.Just give me a moment to think.”

She’d made it to her bedroom, and before we could say anything more, she shut the door behind her.

I stared at my brother. We should give her space, and time.Just like she asked.

“We’ll lock the door on our way out,” I called out to her, but she didn’t answer.

Then, with my heart breaking, we left.

ChapterTwenty-Two

TANIA

Iheld my breath so long I was afraid I’d pass out.

But when I finally heard my men retreat, I allowed the sob to leave my chest and tears to burn my eyes.

They have no choice!

It had been bad enough when I thought they believed a lie about fate choosing me, but to know that they believed it so completely that they’d never love another woman, it broke my heart in the worst way.

“They don’t even know I’m a fraud.”I sobbed, throwing myself down onto my bed where the smell of my men still lingered.
