My cheeks heated with a mix of pleasure and embarrassment.“Oh, thank you Ariel, that’s a really beautiful request.Thank you.”

I’d never thought about calling another woman Mom, but maybe that was because I’d never thought I’d get married.

“Max and I came to try and reassure you about the fated mate bond being real, and nothing to be afraid of.”Ariel tilted her head.“But looking at you now, I have the feeling that you no longer need to hear anything from me.”

I grinned at the woman who could soon be my mother-in-law.“When I was unconscious, I was visited, or I visited him… I’m not sure which it was…”

“Who did you see?”Leo asked, who was sitting beside me.

“Harry.”

“Harry?”Mom repeated in a shocked voice.

I nodded and stood up, still cradling my mug of tea.

Mason was perched on the edge of the sofa I had just left, and I gestured to him.“You can sit.I need to walk and talk.”

He nodded and slid down onto the spot next to Leo.They both looked tense.I needed to explain who Harry was, and fast.

“Harry was like a brother to me,” I explained to everyone in the room, all sitting now and watching me intently.“He was my best friend growing up, and he died a few weeks ago.In my arms.At the gym.”

Ariel gasped, then lifted her hand to cover her mouth.“Oh my.”

I grimaced.“Yes, it was shocking, to say the least. But there’s something else that I haven’t told any of you.”

My dad’s brows furrowed and my stomach dropped.

“What is it?”Mom asked, filling the silence.

I gripped my mug, then tried speaking, only to stop, my fear getting the better of me.

I glanced at my men.

“What’s wrong?”Leo asked.

“Are you worried about what we’re going to think?”Mason asked.

I nodded, pressing my lips together.

Leo chuckled.“Say what you need to say.Never be afraid of telling us anything.”

“Never,” Mason echoed.“No matter what it is, we’ll get our head around it.”He set his jaw as though I was about to say that I’d loved Harry and could never love another.

I smiled at him, feeling relieved that what I needed to tell them had nothing to do with my love for Harry.

“What are you afraid of?”Mom asked, then gave me her serious look.“Do you need me to add a truth serum to that cup of tea?”

I laughed and shook my head.“No, I can do it.Just give me a moment.”

I paced up and down the gorgeous room, taking a steadying breath, then realized I had no hope without a little help from mom.

I held out my mug and groaned.“Do it.”

She waved her hand, making the water shimmer with magic. Then I drank the whole cup of tea without thinking, before I lost my nerve.

Mom’s magic flowed through me, relaxing my shoulders and clearing my mind. What was I worried about again?

Nothing came to mind so I decided to face my audience and tell them the truth.“Harry died because he tried to do the genie spell, and kind of failed.”
