I looked her straight in the eye.“I turned myself into a vapor and followed the scent of Leo’s soul.I travelled through the air, over the trees, and… as you saw, up between the floorboards.”

The witch gaped at me.“What is this spell you speak of?”

I shrugged.“I made it up.I didn’t have time to consult my mom, or the texts.”

The witch’s eyes glowed and I had the feeling it was with anger, not amazement.“You don’t have the power to come up with such a spell.”

I sighed, showing my exasperation.“I’m not lying.”

“I know you’re not,” she snapped.“You must be the one who lifted my spell on their parents.”

She nodded toward Mason and I glanced over to see my mate, kneeling on one knee beside me.He looked like a gallant knight, or a man ready to propose. But I could see the coil in his muscles. He was ready to pounce at any given moment.

I put a hand on his shoulder, willing him to relax. This witch was too powerful, and I wasn’t sure I could fight her and win if I had to worry about them too.

“Yes, I did,” I said simply.“My mom was meant to help me, but when she realized it was you that had put the spell on them, she was too scared to try.”

The ancient’s lips quirked up.“But you weren’t afraid of me?”

I shrugged.“My parents didn’t teach me to be afraid. And when I asked Mom if there would be consequences to me lifting the spell, she said there wouldn’t be.But obviously she was wrong.”

The ancient sniffed loudly.“Normally, she would be correct.Because no-one but another ancient would be able to lift my spell.”

I frowned at her.“So why are we here?”

“Because I want to know how you did it!”She ground out, obviously angry that I’d managed to untie such a strong spell from the shifters.“And the magic you used today. What you are saying is impossible.”

I inhaled sharply and she caught my fear.

She lifted a finger and pointed at me.“You know why this is possible.”

I nodded, and swallowed hard.

“Tell me,” she said.

Tears swam in my eyes. There weren’t the right words to explain what Harry had done for me.For all of us.“Could I show you?”

The witch grabbed her stick with both hands, then nodded once.

I closed my eyes and used a projection spell to share my memories with the whole room.It was time my men knew the full truth about how I got my magic, too.

When I opened my eyes, there before me, playing like a movie in vivid color, was Harry’s final minutes.

“It was me,” he whispered.“A spell… it backfired.”

Hot tears filled my eyes and leaked down my cheeks.“No Harry… I’ll fix you.Come on!”I cried.

Harry reached for my arm, his wet fingers leaving sticky, bloody fingerprints on my skin.“It’s okay… Tan.It’s okay.”

“Why didn’t you go to your parents? They could have fixed you.Helped you.”

He chuckled softly.“They don’t deserve the last of my magic.”

“What do you mean?”I asked him.

“The spell… that’s killing me.It’s a genie spell.”

“No!You didn’t…”
