I pointed my fork at her. “I’m not staying the entire night, though. Just long enough to make sure you’re not losing your mind, then I’m out of there.”

She moved the pudding away and uncapped a delectable-looking steak and potatoes. “That’s all I ask.”

I stabbed a potato and took a bite out of it. “Mm, it’s a bit salty.”

She picked up her pen and jotted down some notes in a notebook in her lap. “Noted. Tweak the salt on the potatoes.”

I took another bite. “The rosemary’s a nice touch, though. Is that infused with the butter?”

She peeked up at me. “Your palette’s getting better.”

I smiled. “Ha, ha! I knew it. The rosemary needs to stay. These would be perfect as a side dish for those that aren’t weird about their carbs.”

She turned the steak toward me. “Now, try that.”

I sliced through the filet with my fork, and I didn’t even have to taste it to approve.

“Yep, this dish needs to be on the menu.”

She clapped her hands in delight. “We have our first dish of the evening! Yay!”

And even though I knew my sister was nervous for her upcoming debut to high society, I knew she’d hit it out of the park.

Just like she did with everything else in her life.
